I'm looking one of this too. Sadly HIARCS Chess Explorer doesn't support these features.

ChessX will do this and it is free and just keeps getting better. I have the latest builds for both Mac and Windows on my box site www.box.com/chessx
Either select a square or drag and hold down the shift control keys to add square or arrow highlights.
I found one post and they all point to PC software. I'm looking for a simple software to add arrows and highlight squares for mac.
