I thought I'd post an update on what happened to me. So when I got the board from customchess.com and unpacked it, looked like this:

I contacted Mike and let him know what happened. Sent the broken board back, and helped him w/ insurance claim. He first promised to fix the board, but due to further delays, he eventually offered me an upgrade as replacement. Took 12 months in total, but I'm very happy with the board I got. Arrived a few days ago, looks sweet:

It looks worth the wait...congrats! :)

Wow, that is a magnificent piece of art work Frank. I am also glad, things worked out in your favor. Best wishes, and I hope you have many great games, and memories with it. Good Luck.

That's a beautiful board. I like that the light squares aren't too light. The pieces fit perfect as well.

Cpngrats on your purchase. wow, he has the most beautiful boards around. Congrats on your purchase. Excepting, of course, firebrandx's New York Open drueke board (which I just decided I was going to buy, and contacted them, and they just sold out of those gorgeous unique and historical boards :().

By the way firebrandx, are you going to post some pix of your board with your pieces on it? Some of us like chess set porn, and I think your ebony fierce knight and that 2.25" drueke board has to be about the nicest chess porn I'm ever going to see. Pics please!!!

Here are a few pics of a new custom board being shipped to me. I'll post more pics and a more detailed review once I have the board at home.

That's a seriously sweet board. I found a customchess board on ebay a few years ago and snatched it up. It really is a work of art. He does excellent work.

FrankHelwig, that also a very nice board. It's a shame what happened to the first one.

I've frequented other fora where craftspeople of various disciplines hung out. I've seen a number of cases where a craftsman makes good products and starts becoming known. All of a sudden they have more orders than they expected, and way more than they can handle in a timely manner. Some stop taking orders until they catch up. A couple ended up not being able to meet their orders, which alienated their customers and led to their business drying up. It must be challenging for a craftsperson to suddenly have to worry so much about the business aspects of their art.

do you have that bridled knight set from chess baron? Do you like it? Can you post pics of it?

Krames

I do have that set, I'll post some pics this week.
