Software thats user friendly?

Fritz is a pain in the ass, even trying to set up a handicap game is not intuitive at all and it not 'remembering' the last setup you used on startup is really irritating. Does something like Shredder or Hiarcs have a better interface? Or do those old Chessmaster programs work with Windows 7?

Thanks for that, how does Shredder handle databases? The opening a new window everytime a new database is accessed is also annoying in Fritz.

Nice, I will look into Shredder definitely..

I would definitely recommend HIARCS Explorer over Shredder.

I would recommend Arena.  It is free and it has a nice interface. Along with this interface, you could also download the chess engine 'Stockfish' for free.  According to the research I did, it is the third strongest chess engine, which is plenty of strength for analysis and blunder-checking.  I myself use the Arena + Stockfish combo when analyzing games.
