Why do you hate this opening so much? It's bad, and it still allows you to set up your favorite Open structure with a space-gaining c5-pawn added to it!
1.e4 c5 2.Bc4 Nc6 3.Qf3!$#@

my favorite is people who play e4 and then play Qh5 after anything black does. Especially when I play the Alekhine defense.

It's a visceral reaction. Maybe I perceive it as a slight that he's betting he'll get a quick checkmate. Maybe I dislike royalty in general.

i play 1...d6 and then when the queen comes out its a choice between Nf6 or e6 striving for a solid, developed structure before going aggressive. Then I try to bother the queen with the light bishop and/or by playing g5 and then g4. The idea is to develop an attack while he has to waste time with his queen safety.

After 3.Nc3 your best bet would probably be 4...e6, blocking the bishop's diagonal. Black has equalized pretty much immediately and in fact enjoys a slight positional advantage, since the queen is preventing the king's knight from hopping to its best square and isn't carrying out any useful tasks from f3. As long as you can prevent White from exploiting the momentary weakness of the d6 square, you should have a pleasant edge.

As a "pet response" 3...Ne5 works, or you could save it for later.
edit: sorry, should mention that I had not seen Oz comment above as it was not "up" when I entered forum. Should remember to hit "refresh" before commenting.
I think it gives better than equality, but it is messy enough so I would hate to have to prove it.

Oh, I'm sorry, TheGrobe, I edited my previous post. To avoid further confusion, here's what I posted previously.
After 4.Nc3 Ne5 5. Qe2 Nxc4 6. Qxc4 d6, the position should be about equal.

I wondered the same -- doesn't Ne5 even give black the lead in development after the exchange?
This is why I lose fast games. My analysis is glib and I'm blind to both the already roaming queen, and the threat to the c5 pawn after the exchange. Please disregard my flawed notion that this somehow constitutes a lead in development.
I hate that 3.Qfx as well. It's quite a nuisance. I've resently posted something about this exact thing myself but haven't gotten an answer on how to get back at white making him wish he never did it. I prefer the sicilian in responce to 1.e4 but then seeing mate appear seems to throw things of track. I do like 3...Ne5. Thanks whoever came up with it.
I hate you, guy down the hall who comes in my office to play chess during the day and plays this as white right after I finished listening to IM Danny Rensch's "Back as Black video" and thought I was going to get to implement something I got from video learnin' today...
