Any way to get around this repotire

Sort:
PPS2

Now i am preaparing day and night for a tournament openings not so much but there is one girl who gives me an headache she has been playing the same things since she was six and this is her repotire after looking at it you will understand.

If you played her what would you play

troll-in-the-park

1. d4

play the french, scandinavian or caro-kann and hope she doesn't expect it

Pixenix

Id go for the french, and look up on the tarsach, if you are not comfortable with the Scotish opening.

When a car is being repossessed, will its tires become repotires ?

That repetoire would win lots of games for a 6 year old, fact that you are still scratching you head on it Laughing.

This is a rather drawish book line (chesstempo full database gives 24.3%/49.1%/26.6%. If 2200 rating games, 19.9%/57.2%/23%). Black equalized easily and the moves are comp. recommended but after 11.Qf3 what do you intend to do?

If you don't play 11 ..Be7 (11. Bd6 or Rb8 preferred by comp.) white trades everything on f6 and that looks like a draw (comp. gives -0.17 but I think it is really drawish). If you retreat with Be7 that looks completely equal and probably draw too.

I also think the 4 ..Bc5 is better as that is less drawish.

I play Caro-kann against e4 and if you know white exchanges that is okay for black.

PPS2

yes i know this is a drawish repotire but the probleam is i want a more imbalanced position

CoffehCat

A normal continuation of the Scotch Four Knights line shouldn't pose many problems for Black, and though I'm not very familiar with the specifics myself - I have to agree with yours, and wrathss, conclusion that it is drawish.

Both the French Defence and Petroff Defence might also lead to more drawish games, if that is her intent; although, you could avoid the Scotch altogether by going into the Latvian Gambit (2. ... f5!?) which would certainly give you an imbalanced, and wild game -- and might be unexpected too.

Hey PPS2.... what do you generally reply to e4? Is it e5? If so then dont fret... go ahead and play e5... just tell me here rating and age... and I will find a really unbalanced and double edged line for you... I know scotch pretty well (from the black side, ofcourse). Happy to help...

i dug more up to it and i am going to play Bc5 she plays the Nb3 variation

I highly recommend focusing on your own repertoire, not your opponent's. I'm currently playing in my first USCF match. It's six G/90 games against an opponent who I've played before and is about my strength. When I began preparing I tried to look at his repertoire for weaknesses and look for his playing strengths and weaknesses, but it was very hard and probably not best. So I started focusing on improving my repertoire and my weaknesses. It was a great decision and I'm currently leading 3-0. Now that we're into the match I'm realizing that I was way off in my initial thoughts about my opponent's strengths and weaknesses. There's a player who I've not beaten before and I think it may be because I was focusing on his strengths too much. We'll see if I can beat him once I start focusing on improving myself. :)

Overall I simply recommend you fix your repertoire, not try to find a hole in hers. If you're having trouble deciding what to play it's a good sign your repertoire needs fixing. What do you play normally and why cannot you play it here? If it's too drawish, learn to win drawish positions, find a different line to play, or even change your repertoire.

Play 1.. c5 or 1.. e6 if you have to win

FiveofSwords, have you looked at Kramnik's 10.h3? I have seen several strong masters recommend it to their students.

If I knew for a fact that I was getting a Tarrasch, I'd play the French in a heartbeat.  The Tarrasch is sh*t!

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nd2 c5! 4.exd5 (4.Ngf3 Nf6 5.e5 Nfd7 and White is forced into the Korchnoi Gambit which gives White no advantage) exd5 5.Ngf3 Nf6! (Better than the old 5...Nc6?!) 6.Bb5+ Bd7 7.Bxd7+ Nbxd7 8.O-O Be7 9.dxc5 Nxc5 10.Nb3 Nce4 and Black has already achieved equality with the more active pieces.  Only downside is the Isolated Queen Pawn, 1 weakness.  Takes two weaknesses to have problems.

Lol here we go again...

oh you mean you are playing black...well why do you need to win?you are black. the position you are getting is still equal enough that you still have chances to win if you jsut play better

The funny things is i love e5 i started playing it cause in open tournaments i was happy for a draw as black, little theory wich gave me time to work as white and its simple unless we go in to a ruy lopez, but now i can see how does that bites me back.

SmyslovFan

Keep playing 1...e5. Don't worry too much about theory, just pick an active line that gets your pieces out and play chess!

Against the Scotch, play 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 ed 4.Nd4 Bc5 5.Nxc6 Qf6 followed by dxc6 and you'll be fine.

TwoMove

In those children's books on chess, your opponent would definitely be cautious carol... If you are a 1...e5 player would stick to it, and try to teak it to shaper lines somewhere, think Emms suggested Bc5 instead of Bb4 in your original line. There are lots of 1...e5 side line books, think latest is by Bologan. Maybe worth getting hold of that.

Myself play sicilian (e6 versions) or french. Would play the grandprix attack line because it seems most unbalanced. Also have a bit more respect for Tarrasch than some. Something like 1.e4 c5 Nc3 e6 3f4 then a6 or d5 looks playable too.

@PPS2 are you a positional or a tactical player?

In order to get around Mariya Muzychuk's formidible preparation in the world women's chess championship, Harika played what she described as a 'harmless side variation' of the Scotch simply to push Muzychuk out of her comfort zone. The point of the whole thing is that - if white plays c3 (the most natural move) she loses the opportunity to play Nc3 and it tangles up her natural development a little bit.

You could also go for 'the nuclear option' and play Alekhine's defense!
