Hi Allen,

You've gotten some interesting comments already! Chess openings lead to musical thoughts for some people. <grin> Yes, playing e4 AND d4 is a great opening; but seriously, it's neat to play both moves. Some call it 'playing with both hands'.

the English is probably an opening 1.d4 players ought to learn. There are so many transpositions, it can be used as a weapon the 1.d4 player wishes to use to trick his opponent into a d4 opening he doesn't normally play. At any rate, the English into d4 side-steps openings like the Gruenfeld, Benko Gambit, Benoni, Budapest Gambit if white dislikes playing against those options.

Actually, I'm not really a specialist (although I am seeing one).

BirdBrain

A chess specialist - how wonderful!!!
