KID Study Group:

Greetings, my newest addition to the Opening Study Group is the King's Indian Defense. This is one of the most exciting openings in chess; while white races to destroy black's kingside, black storms the kingside and creates an attack that can only be stopped by a breakthrough on the queenside.

Below, you will see two King's Indian games played by high-level players. In the first game, black offers a classical KID attack to destroy white's kingside while white tries to defend and attack at the same time. In the end, black wins through a combination of tactics, including mating nets, interference, and pins.

In the next game, black loses focus of his goal of attacking the kingside and lets the win slide. White made no wonderful combinations, but instead won by defending black's threats and taking advantage of a blunder. Often, if black's attack doesn't work, white can win simply by surviving the threats and winning with what's left.

Both of these games included fierce attacks. In positions such as these, both players should know as much theory as possible, in order to save their remaining time to reach the second time control, if it exists, or to finish the game under sudden death.

For these reasons, the KID has been added to the Opening Study Group system. In the group, we will play tournaments, study variations, and consider the games of high-rated players. If enough participation is found, the group will begin on January 31, 2012.

I'd say yes, considering I've just put three months of study into my favorite defensive opening for Black. Count me in. This opening was recently used in the London Classic in a great game between Nakamura and Anand, where Nakamura uses the KID to pull off a victory few thought would happen. It's in round 4. Yeah, count me in!

Yeah, if you could count me in too please.  Would love to help fight the good cause against that annoying Makogonov system (5.h3)

That sounds quite interesting please let me know if this group is already existing.
