I accidentally sent it on the wrong side

So turn the board over..

There is one surprising variation in advance variation called "extended bishop swap variation". Which goes 1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 and you play 3...Bd7 4.Nf3 a6 preparing for

Bb5 where you trade off your bad bishop for whites good bishop. Of course white can try to prevent Bb5 but our plan is simple. You can explore more of this.

You can check Eric Rosen yt channel where he had a lecture with gm Avetik Grigoryan.

Nobody will allow this. Everyone knows 7.Be3 is the correct move.

Can you please send a board with the moves?

This was first suggested by GM Christian Bauer some 20 years ago.

The problem with this line is 4.c3! a6 5.Bd3 and now 5...Bb5 does not quite work after 6.Bc2, either like that or with ...c5 and Nf3 inserted.

Actually the line 3...c5 4.c3 Bd7 5.Nf3 a6 was suggested in the first edition of "The Solid Rubinstein Variation" by IM Hannes Langrock, but was abandoned in the second edition as advantageous for white after 6.Bd3, and another line (IMO also not quite satisfactory) took its place.

I have met it as white once OTB, and Black went astray very quickly:

White is simply winning the b5 pawn after Na3 and Qe2, and Black has nothing to show for it.

However, the whole idea might be useful if white answers 3...Bd7 with 4.Nf3. In case of 3...Bd7 4.c3! Black should change plans and play 4...c5 5.Nf3 Nc6 (6.Be2 Nge7) which is a very reliable line against the advance French.

i have developed a soft spot for 3.b6 agaisnt the advanced variation. It starts of slow but agaisnt natural moves black ends up with in positions where his positional advantages improve more and more as you approach the endgame.

agaisnt the correct computer like replies involving early h4 and a4 whites advantage is a bit larger than average but i like the uglyness of the resulting positions.

I play Reversed French Defense as white lol

Here's how it goes with colors not reversed:

I think the exchange variant is the most boring.

MaestroDelAjedrez2025

White will probably play Nf3 of Bd3

The exchange is excellent! Piss White off by going Symmetrical on him. He gets down to an endgame, and your expertise on minor piece endings wins for you. In roughly 100 OTB games doing that, I have roughly 25 to 30 draws, 4 losses, and the rest wins.

Black has at least three good ways to break the symmetry early on:

4.Nf3 Bd6

4.Nf3 Nc6

4.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bd3 c5

All of them are 100% reliable, and none of them results to a "boring game".
