What will you move if you are black?

I think 2...c6 is more popular than 2...e6

Basically 4 main lines, the rest is worse?

2..c6 is leading to the Slav variation of the Queen's Gambit Declined

2..e6 leads to the Classical variation of the Queen's Gambit Declined

2..Nc6 leads to Chigorin Defense, aiming at a fast e5.

Also there is 2..dxc4 but nowadays at higher levels the QGA isn't seen often.

Well I think there are 6 total lines.

  • 2...c6  Queens Gambit, Slav Variation
  • 2...e6 Queens Gambit, Declined Variation
  • 2...cxd4  Queens Gambit, Accepted Variation
  • 2...Nc6  Queens Gambit, Chigorin Defense
  • 2...Bf5  Queens Gambit, Baltic Defense
  • 2...e5  Queens Gambit, Albin Counter Gambit

Those 6 are like the main ones that usually get played.

I believe the first 3 are like considered very respectable and are most popular.

As for the other 3 lines I honestly do not know that much about them to give any kind of judgement. I do know an online friend of mine who likes the Baltic Defense.

Also I believe there is a SGM who wrote a book on the Chigorin Defense. However, I do not know how to spell his name lol.

So I don't know I believe all 6 are playable lines.

I personally like to play 1...Nf6 against 1.d4. So I don't play those lines that much to be honest. I have been looking into the Slav a little bit lately.

b5! After cxb5, a6. Like the wing gambit in Sicilian but with black. Won 2 games with that move.

I would go for c4,yeah accepting the Queen's gambit because there are actually quite good defences even though you accept the gambit but i know c6 would be probably played by most players but still in my opinion c4 is still nice even though it is like a inaccurate Option

dxc4 should work against most players (assuming you're not playing against any GMs), mostly because a large percentage of Queen's Gambit players don't know the lines as well as they know Slav and QGD

TwoMove

It was not so long  that for GM's the Queen's Gambit Accepted was the solid choice, similar to Petroff againt 1.e4, and in just about everybodies rep. So not sure where this not playable at GM level is coming from. One of the many myths of the opening forum.
