While trying to look up some other inane factoid I came across this in Wikipedia - which seems to be an OK (or better) source for many of its' chess articles - at least based on dozens I've read there. ANYWAYS, here goes:
The Dunst Opening is a chess opening where White opens with the move:
This fairly uncommon opening may have more names than any other: it is also called the Heinrichsen Opening,Baltic Opening, van Geet's Opening, Sleipnir Opening, Kotrč's Opening, Meštrović Opening, Romanian Opening, Queen's Knight Attack, Queen's Knight Opening, Millard's Opening, Knight on the Left, and (in German) der Linksspringer.
Can anyone vouch for one or more of these other names applying to 1.Nc3? Next, can anyone name any other opening(s) with this many different names - or more?
Queen's Knight Opening
Knight on the Left: 1.Nc3
Der Linksspringer 1.Nc3
Linksspringer rides again
Sounds close to the dunce opening.
I like "der Linksspringer." I might take up the opening, for that reason alone. Of course, from Black's perspective, it is der Rechtsspringer....
