Is Aronian overrated

trotters64 Bobby Fischer is a joke. In todays world Bobby Fischer in his prime would be just another 2700 GM, very very strong, but not winning tounaments by +14. Carlsen would squish him like a bug, (as he does almost everyone EXCEPT Levon Aronian and Fabiano Caruana). There is only one person in history who i think would have a better then even shot at beating magnus, that is Garry Kasparov. Next world chapionship match i hope that Caruana/Aronian play, I mean Anand is a worthy player, but as we saw last year, he just can't beat this monster from norway.

Anybody who has the temerity to call Bobby Fischer a joke obviously has no business commenting on any matters that are chess related. Your remarks are worthy of contempt.

"Fanboy".

Is this a term used by people that do not like the person in question ?

I could have googled that type of nonsense.

I haven't seen him causing too much trouble on the thread and in all fairness, what is Aronian doing at world number 2? Reminds me of the Number 2 in the Austin Powers films.

Given Fischers memory, cast him into the modern computerised age and his capacity would give many current GMs the shivers.

The rise of computers makes it harder for the stronger players, back in Fischer,s day his opening preparation would be the best so that was one more advantage nowadays everyone can prepare openings with a 3100 team of seconds. The same goes for Kasparov the rise of computers made his dominance less than it was before as other players could then prepare as well as him.

Ranked #2 somehow but no one even pays attention to him. Did he cheat his rating or something? The real current #2 is Fabiano Caruana.

I would take Aronians chess skills anytime.

But would you put in the time ?

Being rated #2 doesn't make you an instant Candidates winner. Keres was one of the greats of the game, but never reached a title match. Aronian is only 31 and going by Carlsen's four latest predecessors he should have at least a decade left in the top. This far Aronian has underperformed in the few Candidates he played, even if he only was 0.5 from first in 2013. But I think he will play a title match before the decade is over.

Lol i figured i would get that type of remark. Let me rephrase what i was trying to say. Bobby Fischer is not better then Levon Aronian. Fischers games were very impressive, so were his records, but put him into today's settings and he wouldn't be nearly as shockingly good, Carlsen would squish him, have you looked at Carlsen games? I mean really looked at them, studied them for hours, the pouncing on every single slight innacuracy. Though Fischer was amazing you can't compare him to todays players, even Hikaru Nakamura said so (though he said it where it will get pulled and ripped apart and effect him, but i'm saying it here, where it doesn't matter at all! lol)

So nobody's listening.

Keres didnt become the champion because Russia did not want him to.

This continuing of comparing players from different eras still comes down to "IF".  Since none of us know, how any player from one era would do in another.  And then we throw more "if's" with well what if...chess engines...time to prepare...databases...advances in opening theory...strength of opposition...blah...blah...blah.

You might as well nail one foot to the floor, and run around in circles, because thats all that will get accomplished.

Jouuu Wahrscheinlich!

Superqueen500

Caruana's live rating (2801.8) just passed Aronian's (2801.5). About fucking time. I hope it stays this way so Aronian is never overhyped again.

azziralc

No he isn't.

Wow, accusing the chess960 world champion of cheating??

PlentyOToole

No, didn't accuse, OP was just wondering.
