I mean,we all talk about Fabiano Caruna,Anish Giri...I totaly forget that american kamikaza Hikaru Nakamura is 26 years old.Great player indeed, but never become world champion.

I think *HE* is, but he needs to wait as he didn't make the cut for next year http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Chess_Championship_2014

blitzjoker

I think he needs to win some speed chess contest with some other super GMs first.

MrDamonSmith

He would have to qualify first. He's never been able to so far. He has to qualify for the candidates tournament & then win it.

He will be asap  look out champ!

*Say* Anand re-thinks things and suddenly announces his retirement (even though he's openly said he's playing the Candidates) and pulls out : Does Naka get to snag that spot per the existing zany FIDE rules?

MrDamonSmith

The only problem I see getting in his way, other than being unable to qualify for the candidates so far (& then actually finish 1st) is that he's just not as good as Carlsen. That could be a problem. A serious problem. Even if he improves some more, so will Magnus in all likelyhood. His current win % vs. Magnus is 34%. In 22 games he's never won even a single game. The record is Carlsen 7 wins, Naka 0, & 15 draws.

Edit: 34% y'all. Do the math(s).

He's got this weird block when it comes to Carlsen.  Carlsen just has a way of killing whatever creative tries Naka comes up with.  Naka excels at practical chess and Carlsen is more like playing an engine.

"If any replacement is needed due to withdrawal or refusal of participation, the first reserve player from the final standings of the FIDE Grand-Prix 2012/2013 [Caruana] will be invited. Any futher replacement needed will be fulfilled from the average rating list described in article 2.4 [highest average rating from August 2012 to July 2013] above."

Carlsen will destroy everyone in the current top 20. No one stands a chance.

The only one who has a nice record against Carlsen and who is also younger is Anish Giri. Their score is 3,5 -3,5. And in their last match, Giri almost won.

See: http://www.365chess.com/search_result.php?wlname=Carlsen&wname=&open=&blname=Giri&bname=&eco=&nocolor=on&yeari=&yeare=&sply=1&ply=&res=&submit_search=1

MrDamonSmith

Wow, Giri. I looked that info up on chessgames.com & they've only played 5 clasical games with Giri leading 1-0 with 4 draws. It's hard to tell yet, they need to play a lot more games, 5 isn't very many. Giri is rising & will be in more tournaments with Carlsen, we'll see after another 10 games or so.

Also known as "Carslen plays better".

Naka is not probably able to take down Carlsen, Levon i think could take Naka down.

Much appreciated! :)

Never say never. Would love to see Naka fighting for the World Champion crown.

I would prefer Levon going for the crown. Innocent

Naka just needs to take his notarized certificate for practicing 10,000 extra hours to a local FIDE establishment and trade it in for a world champion title.  Easy.  Just like he did for his GM title.

Keep writing him off and he will keep winning and getting better. He is now #3 in the world in classical chess, number one in blitz and possible just snatched number one in rapid for carlsen with this win in london.

Recently he has had results against people who used to own him. Svidler, Gelfand, Wang Hao. Carlsen is the only one left. I think we havent seen near his best stuff and his main issues with Carlsen are self destruction. Naka played him very well in their last meeting and had Carlsen on the backfoot in the first game both games ended in draws.

There are two super tournaments coming up in january so Naka and Carlsen will be playing each other again then. We will see how much he has improved in those events. For the people writing him off, keep doing it please...

One more thing to add the qualification cycle is ridiculous. Just go by rating and Caruana and nakamura would have easily made it in. Anyway I doubt Anand is retireing so quickly so both of these strong young players will miss out on this cycle but should easily qualify for the next one by rating alone.

I don't know what it is about Naka I don't really like.  I'm not a fan.  But I admit that a WCC match between him and Carlsen would be exciting to me.
