Hey!

We've created a brand-new Chess.com page over at Meetup.com in hopes of giving our members a great new way to find new chess friends locally & organize chess OFF-line.  Laughing

We're kicking things of with an "Everywhere" event on April 16, but we need your help to make this thing really fly!  (Basically, we think globally - you guys act locally! Wink )

Check out this post in the official blog for all the details:

We'll continue to post about this stuff as we get closer to the date!

This will be worth keeping an eye on.

Edith Weston will be my nearest event.

Great idea. Probably won't be able to do anything this time around as my current plans are to play a tournament that day. If that falls through I'll be probably do it. Too bad it wasn't on the 17th ... that's our local club meeting anyway.

Supplying a T-shirt for the most successful meet-up?

I don't understand meetup though... even though I set up a chess.com meetup, if you go to meetup.com and search for "chess" the meetup doesn't even show up? This really limits the number of people that might want to be interested in showing up.

It seems like you can only find the events though this link http://www.meetup.com/ChessCom/ which means people can't find it just searching on meetup.com?

Also is there a way some admin can delete the extra meetup that I accidently created. Message me off this list and I'll explain more.

Good questions, rickcr!  This Meetup "Everywhere" platform is a relatively new kind of offering for Meetup.com.  The downside, as you have noted, is that we have to do all of our own marketing - both centrally (Chess.com) and locally (Meetup organizers).  The up-side is that it's entirely free - again, both for Chess.com and for individuals who want to sign up for these groups & events.

If you let me know the name of the erroneous group, I'll see if I can delete it.

if you could try to delete the second one listed here http://www.meetup.com/ChessCom/Palm-Harbor-FL/ that would be great. Thanks.

Deleted!

Embarassed EDIT: Hm.. that seemed to have deleted the whole community, actually.  Fortunately, there were only two people there, I believe.  Sorry, can you rebuild?
