Rating adjustments after game

Sort:

Hello,

Games List and Best Win show ratings after the game, but should be showing the rating before the game. That's a logical error in my point of view.

Any comments from experienced players and/or Chess.com stuff?

Cheers,

miquele

You can see what you rating was BEFORE the game simply by looking at the previous entry (for the same type of game) in the games list.

The estimate of your strength (rating) during that last game is deemed be calculated better with that one more piece of information.

Not talking about calculation or anything, talking about the display. Example: Assume one plays against a opponent of 1800 and wins the game. After losing the game your opponent has a rating of 1790. Now, your best win is shown to be 1790 which in my point of view is incorrect. Your win was against a player of 1800. Games list accordingly.

Your opponent's strength was deemed to be less accurately estimated at 1800 than 1790. You did not beat an 1800 you beat an overrated player whose strength was closer to 1790 than 1800.

that doesn't make any sense to me.

that doesn't make any sense to me either

If it was called "Best Start", then 1800 would be the appropriate figure.

Since BEST WIN is actually "Best Finish", 1790 is more accurate.

I still disagree.

Let's look at the order of events:

(1) Your rating is 1800, and we play.

(2) I win.

(3) Our ratings get recalculated, (claiming the obvious) based on the outcome of (2). The result in (2) is prerequisite for (3).

Now to recap, to recalculate, the result of (2) and the ratings *before* the win are taken into account. In my games list, the ratings shown are the ones *after* the win. But what was my best win? The win took place in (2), before recalculation, hence it doesn't make any sense to me, still, to show as best win the ratings after the game.
