These are great. From real games of yours or from a book of puzzles?

ponz111

I only do puzzles from real games I have played.  Most are entirely my own but a few might be from vote chess from when I played vote chess on Ponziani Power.

I think puzzles from real games are the best as they are often more realistic.

Did you get the answer to this one?  When you got the answer, did you understand it?

Nice.  Can you add some more lines to the end there?   e.g. what happens after 2...f5 ?  I guess 2...f6 3. Qh5+ g6 4.Nxg6 is pretty strong, but if the pawn is on f5  it seems like white still needs to find the exact way.  Seems a bit early to resign in a live game... was this a correspondence game?

e.g. 2...f5 3.Bxf5 Rf8 and now?

You are correct that in the end position of the problem my opponent resigned even though there were several follow ups.

This WAS from a correspondence game--actually postal chess. This game is from more than 35 years ago. My opponent was a master level player.

Because it was postal chess, I gave a whole bunch of "if moves" as to what would be my follow up for each move he could play.  After receiving the "if moves" he could see that he would lose, no matter what move he could play and that is why he resigned immediately.

I will try and give some variations a little later to show why he resigned.

Only, a strong master would probably resign from such a position.

OK, the answer to the problem is 1. Rxb6  Qxb6  2. Ne5 and Black [a very strong player] resigned

Why did he resign?  Here is the position.... It was postal chess and he resigned because I gave "if moves" for all the possible replies and then he knew he was lost.

First, I will answer question of icyviper..

Here is another defense...

I was in a rush, so I didn't try to solve it. I just skipped right to the solution. Don't hate me.

I could tell it was from a real game and not a contrived puzzle. There is one clue that gave that away.

lots of laughs! There were several clues!  what was yours?

"Here Black resigned. He cannot stop all the threats."
