Tables were turned!

Sort:
Bareilly

I played this player (Dedynayli) about a two weeks back. Two games were played & I was amazed at the turn around by Dedynayli in the second game.

Here's the first game

I was pleased with an easy win & readily accept rematch. And in the second game, I was crushed.

Please analyse the games & advise any weak spots & how I can improve my game.

if you both turned the table while playing

doesn't that mean you lost?

First game:  5. ... g5 is terrible.  White queen checks, your king must move, blocking a bishop in and losing the right to castle.  Your already lost in expert hands.  12. ... a6 is just weakening, it lets white open the bfile right away by pushing the pawn.  You've sped white's attack up.  16. your comment about a deliberate pawn sac to give white doubled pawns is very silly.  You have slowed white's attack, and that is worth quite a bit if you can get yours going, but why does white mind doubled pawns per se?  He doesnt - this position is all about getting the enemy king, for both sides.  You play well from here, and your tactic to win is very nice for your rating level.  Overall, good job, well played game for your rating apart from g5, which could have literally wrecked your game.

Second game:  8. h3 - you dont need to keep the dark squared bishop off this square, its blocked in.  And if the knight does go to g4, you can play h3 at that point - knight has nowhere to go but back.  So this move does nothing except weaken your pawn structure.  Immediate E4 would have been much better, making the dark squared bishop realize its in the wrong spot.  10. b3 - its not that this is terrible, but Black's e5 pawn is very much over-protected, so the bishop doesnt really do anything on b2 -- d4 or be3 are more natural.  15. b5 -- why exactly do you want to lock the queenside up?  By now, we realize your dark squared bishop is very much mispositioned, doing nothing.  You can no longer achieve a pawn break on the queenside or center, so play can only be on the kingside, and black has an extra piece pointed that way.  Black has some edge.  16.  ... nh5.  Ok, here was your chance.  That black knight is floating, unprotected by anything.  Find a tactic.  From here, you could have defended, but it was going to take some planning -- you needed to protect the hpawn with the kind and play g3 to keep/get the knight out.  G4 is a visibly poor move that gives black what he wants.  Yes, 22. nh2 is a blunder, but black is going to be attacking you for a long time no matter what you do -- your minor pieces are all poorly position except for the one knight.  Maybe a computer can defend and win this with the extra material, but humans probably want black here.
