WHY PEOPLE RESIGN SO EASY

Sort:
qinns

When facing zugzwang only heros and fools fight to the (bitter) end... The normal person usualy see when mud hits the fan. To all hopefull halfbakes - I do despise you!!! I do not timeout, my mouse do not slip, I do not make moves before morning coffee, etc. Do not lose time when the game is lost.

@quinns just because it has not happened yet does not mean that it will not happen refering of course to the last bit of your post.

Further it is still up to your opponent to resign as they see fit, regardless of how much time you think they are costing you.

Yeah, well my timeouts ratio is like 80%... ;)

But still I hate sickos who running they king for months on the board to get yet another boring rook mate... But in general I always refrain myself from "in game" nagging, since it is up to them how much I will loathe them in the end.

@YersiniaPestis btw, game? 3Day/move Random

MAYBE thats reason he is WORLD CHAMPION ... he resigns ... Lol Embarassed

vac4444

anand is ofcourse the best player in the world CURRENTLY.... lets see Carlsen take him over or not.... i like carlsen , i mean his memory is very sharp .. i dont know how he remember all good games of his life , i read some where ... ! I studied about carlsen for 5 years and came to find out that he had incredible memory for good moves . maybe thats the reason he is awsum !  maybe thats why he got many girls like him .. Lol

Lol. There are many reasons to resign other than material, i believe. A couple of posters have suggested being an Queen(!) down and playing on is rather dependant on the relative strength of opponent (even if they are otherwise family). I am an staunch advocate of equivocal karma. Never underestimate another's ability. I'll know if i "got" an opponent's number...but if i messed up vs the World Champion or the guy across the street, regardless, i can sleep soundly knowing i'll play better next time instead of playing on, racking my brain trying for an swindle or hoping for an error which'll turn into an advantage.

Let me ask you this: Do you like it when you see a plan in your game, you play along your plan and in the end you get the change to mate your opponent? I do. But unfortunately you almost never get to this point because people resign well before that because they either think it is the right thing to do or because they are to proud/angry to get mated.

"Fighting spirit" isn't equitable to playing an lost position needlessly. Being a pawn down, and playing on doesn't even prove you are the better player...because most of here know sometimes a pawn up doesn't bring the win home (especially if its an rook pawn).

najdorf96

Undoubtedly, there are many out there who'll gladly oblige you to "prove" the win. I'm just not one of those people (even if i am rated higher than you). By resigning before the inevitable pays one the respect one deserves in an well played game. (I, personally would congratulate said winner and be on my way)

Bradypus

I do understand that and I also agree with it most of the time. I only wanted to add that it is good fun and not wrong or bad sportmanship to play a game to the end.

najdorf96

Hmm. I can agree somewhat to that sentiment, OTB, if agreed beforehand that it would be educational for the 'non-winner' to witness closing out an lopsided position "to the end". I just think it's sadistic to have anyone go through that and assume he'll be appreciative.

Personally, I dont like to resign at all even if I am loosing. Sometimes, the opponet makes a mistake which costs his game. So i try.

My friend and me had analyzed some of the games of GMs which they had resigned. We tried all possibilities, but all in vain. The GMs were correct.

I think, it has to do with their intellecutal capabilities as many of the comments too point .

Rookie_of_64Squares

but in this particular game, 5 to 6 moves if we think, black looses

bRADY pus....i totally agree with you .... but resign should never an option , for me it feels you surrendered ,chess is game of kings ! so its a war game.... you gotta fight till end, no matter what , one should learn to accpt checkmate. cummon guys ...its just a game after all ! chess should be fun in the end lIKE SEX.....rather than compromising with your EGO .....

TheGreatOogieBoogie

I don't want to be what many would call an "annoying noob" that wastes other people's time.  Though even an NM said I should have played on in one of my lost games so maybe I really do resign too early.

vac4444

OKAY FOR ALL people who should learn why not to resign ..... just have a look  at my last game ... i was in worst checkmate postion .... BUT I TURNED THE WHOLE GAME .....n oponnent was in checkmate after few moves... SO chess is a game of unpredictabilty ,ANYTHING CAN BE TURNED ONLY A QUESTION OF HOPE AND FAITH !  YOU CAN ALL SE MY LAST BLITZ GAME .CoolTongue OutLaughing   TO ALL WHO ARE IN FAVOU OF RESIGN ....
