First of all, i'd like to say this IS NOT my game. It was played by NM Dana Mackenzie and demonstrated on www.chesslecture.com. It just such a great game it would be a sin not to share it with you all.

If you want full commentary, more variations or more games/lectures/videos on the Queen sacrifice on move 6, or basically on other openings or endgames, go to www.chesslecture.com :)

Wow, tremendous game. I've seen this opening before but I never followed through. Being a bird player, this definitely turns me on (creatively ofcourse). Wink

Yes, wonderful isnt it? But I wont play it, too risky :P

Black's play was rubbish, completely planless

@UdayanOwen haha, where would you have improved on black's play?

And that was White's plan. Keep Black from not being too active as stated on move 6. And I agree with NM Ozzie Cobblepot, where would you have improved?

The queen was traded for initiative which black has to respond to. His plan from that point on was defense (and not blundering in unfamiliarity). It wasn't a matter of the the player's plan being there or not, but a matter of white's plan being that much more prepared and aggressive.

Yes, NM Dana has been playing/practicing this opening on Fritz for 2 years before the game according to the commentary.

In the OPs game I don't think that fancy pants f5+ is correct (although it is completely winning of course). Black escapes the immediate mate with Kxf5 Be2+ Ke4 etc.  Whereas, instead --Rxg7+ Kf5 Rf7+ Nf6 Rxf6# is all forced.
