I don't know about most clubs, but my club certainly would. I've got to think we're not too different from other clubs. You could always give them a call and ask, see what they say. There wouldn't be any harm in that.

Not sure about the USA, but in Australia (my club anyway) we let anyone play and actively try to get new players involved. As long as you're willing to pay the price (pretty small for my club) then of course you can play!
You don't need a rating either as none of our games are rated until you decide to play in a tournament.
Would most chess clubs let someone play with them if they are not that good?
