chessmasterschool?

I found a website, chessmasterschool.com, and I am thinking of buying their grandmaster package. It seems like a good systematic approach but I am still skeptical as the price is rather high. If anyone has used it and could tell me if it was worth it I would be grateful.

I have no personal knowledge of the program, but there have been several lively discussions in the past.  Try that little box in the upper right that says "search forums".  One thread had 47 posts; must be something in there to help you make up your mind.

Thank you baddogno, I will do that. Smile

If it's the same online chess school I'm thinking of then I believe BorgQueen has been a member there for over a year and spoke very highly of it.

I've heard mixed reviews. But like with anything the amount of work plays a large roll.

You are right. BQ is one of my active "classmates" in that school. I received the 4th month lesson this month but in actuality- I'm still struggling in Month 2. I decided to take the plunge last April and try the lesson as I don't have much time and money in hiring a coach and I really want to improve. As was pointed out by many reviewers, the lesson per month equates to 2 to 3 good books. But the difference and its main sell out is its structure and quality. If you are really serious about chess improvement and willing to spend for 20 books in a year then this is maybe for you. You can even try the lesson for 30-days and cancel with refund if you didn't like what you get.

Thanks for the info. When you talk of chessbooks, do you mean published works like Dvortsky's Engame Manual or two/three books worth of reading material from the academy itself? The reason being I'm giving it serious thought about signing up.

Correction: BQ wasn't my "classmate" as he graduated way ahead of me. He's more like a schoolmate though.

For more unbiased reviews, rants, complains or what-not re this school, a forum was created by a pioneer student; I'm just afraid of pasting the link here as it might lock this forumCool

Any response as to my question regarding the books/reading material?

I feel that their material is original. The 2 to 3 book value is just an approximation with the monthly cost of $39. Each month, you will receive a lesson in general strategy, a partial lesson in tactics, and highly selected opening lines. There are some exercises as well so you can check your progress. Another value is their video lessons which reinforce the application of their theory. I have to admit here that most of the complains there is that the program was not written by native english speakers hence there were grammatical errors here and there. I don't have a problem with that, as English is not my native language as well.

Thanks for the reply.

Content wise I think it is a well thought out program but the audio is so painful to listen to. I didn't make it past the second video.
