NO but they sound totally arbitrary and useless. I've heard these labels previously of course but not with these definitions.
Chess ratings are of course way more accurate for gauging everyone's current playing strength compared to everyone else in that rating pool. On the other hand, I guess most of us take it for granted a duffer is a patzer and a GM isn't...
i heard these general descriptions years ago. has anyone heard these? are they common?
duffer- blunders nearly every game makes lots of mistakes
coffeehouse player- blunders once in a while still makes mistakes
amateur- rarely blunders still makes some mistakes
master- never blunders makes few mistakes
grand master- rarely makes mistakes
