Going back to tactics square one BUT...

I am now doing only mates in one on Chess Tempo. Takes a lot of thinking but I think it is going to strengthen my tactics. So my vision right now is narrowed down to mates in one. BUT In playing games when my opponents army comes at me, I try my best to deal with it tactically. But that is not enough. I need a PLAN. I am too passive. Either looking for his undefended pieces or trying to defend myself. Surely there must be something I need to be studying right now as well as tactics. Your thoughts. Stwils

Another possibility is to read a book like Chernev's Logical Chess: Move by Move or Euwe's Chess Master vs. Chess Amateur.

Don't go blind on tactics alone. You need some basic strategical knowlege aswell so you are not totally lost in the middlegames.

Look at tactics lesson in Chess Mentor...and go through some annotated games...

No, just stick to tactics. As far as planning goes, try to do things so that you can control e4/d4, but honestly, you won't be able to understand/use strategy until you are a much higher rating.
