Sort:

I have been doing 25 puzzles each day for a while and improved 400 points. But would it be usefull to do even more?

yes tactics trainer is working on your pattern recognition in your subconsciousness

Doing as many as you can will benefit you. I am 1600-1900 right now in that range in TT.

and I am starting to see pattern in under 5 seconds and I am starting to look for candidate moves and start to calculate before moving and still solve some really fast.

I ask because David Pruess said there was a limit for how much the brain can soak up pr. day. I think he said 15-20 mins pr day. 25 puzzles is about 35 mins. But I want to do more if it's usefull:) Maybe some in the morning and some at night or something ?

I went from 1100 to 1500 in a few months.

I was only talking from my own experience but if David Pruess said it must be true. maybe I am the one overdoing it.

but somehow I doubt that the brain can only soak 25 minutes a day.

at the time I went to school they filled over brains with knowledge 8 hours a day.

Doing a lot of them is good, but indeed, your mind can eventually totally crash if you do absolutely tons of them. My biggest one was when I decided I have to do as many tactics as possible, so I'd literally do about 80-100 a day, and actually stuck to it for about two weeks! When all was said and done I had accumulated a nice database, but at the same time it made me not want to play for a week!

Do as many as you feel you can absorb. When you start to get tired of maintaining a disciplined thinking process (something you simply need to do well with this), it may be a good time to quit, because as Pruess apparently said the mind can only soundly absorb so much each day and if you do too many, then you may find that you're wasting time (you'll probably forget too many), and the game will start to get stale.

25 is a solid amount, and I think the brain is fully capable of that. You might want to consider doing even more on a good day, but as a rough guide I'd say stay away from doing over 40 as far as improvement is concerned.

i've done tactic trainer on a few occasions. i do find it to be very useful but am sometimes puzzled when i execute a move that the tactic trainer sees as an error.

it is apparently obvious that the plays tactic trainer recognize as being correct are fixed. does TT consider alternative plays that can be equally correct?
