How to abort a game before it starts

Sort:
Empathy1

I just finished playing a 15/10 game knowing I had to stop  playing chess after game to take care of urgent personal issues. Before I had a chance to logoff, another game started.  This happened twice last week and I had to abort two games and received notice about violating fair play policy.  NOT a single move was made in those games.  So how do you quit a game that you never intended on playing if it starts before you logoff?

you wait like 30 seconds or so and then it will automatically abort without a notice.

I waited almost 2 minutes and my clock was still ticking down. Maybe it's 30 seconds in blitz, but not in 15/10,  The problem is if all I have to do is wait, I can't shut down my computer as this would be considered an aborted game.  There must be a solution to this issue. I have to believe this happens to thousands of players.  Thanks

your clock shouldn't tick down unless you made a move. The only time that happens is if you are playing in a tournament in which case you should withdraw.

Not true.  It was a 15/10 game, I was white, and clock started ticking down as soon as game starts.  Maybe this is a software bug with 15/10 games, but clock always starts ticking down in 15/10 game as soon as it starts before any move is ever made by white.  This was NOT a tournament game.

That's weird. I don't play a lot of standard time control so maybe the rules are a bit different. If you finish a game though shouldn't you not make any more challenges?

That's the point. The previous game was over and all of a sudden a new 15/10 game popped up with a different player. It's not like accepted a rematch from 1st player.  I didn't have even 10 seconds to logout before new game was preseneted to me.  I bet this is a known bug in version 2. I wouldn't care about aborting game if I did not recieve the messages from Corp about violating fair play policy. I always resign if I am losing and never logoff or abort game.

ya you might want to contact support then

Are you saying that you or your opponent made the last move of a game or resigned and then without either you or your opponent doing anything, another game started?

There was no rematch offer by either party? And no acceptance by either party?

I have never experienced anything like it and there don't appear to be many people posting similar problems in the forums.

Somebody else had a similar problem 3 years ago- http://www.chess.com/forum/view/livechess/auto-rematch-and-fair-play-warning

This is really weird.

In my experence,(which is actually not a lot) the clock dosen't start ticking until both sides have made a move.
