Hi can someone please tell me how someone could get FM TItle without achieving an Elo rating of 2300? I played a otb game against someone who was a FM and when I checked his name on fide rankings his highest achieved rating was 2067 (from what I could tell) his name is nik v stawski if anyone would like to check or Confirm. Thanks
The regular way is achieving a FIDE rating of 2300+ and keeping it for 30+ games, but the title can also be obtained by performance in some events, like Youth and Continental championships, even if you don't meet the 2300+ rating precondition.
I think that you can also get the title in the Chess Olympiads.
