Need help with old German

Possibly to avoid confusion with "i."

More old German I need help with:

Dá lagen vor der frouwon fler
Wurfzabel unde kurrier,
Geworht von helfenbeine;
Mit edelem gesteine
Spilten si, mit holze niht,
Als man nu frouwen spilen siht.

batgirl

Thanks.

Wurfzabel seems to be the board game Backgammon.

These lines come from the earliest know mention of Courier in context of a game. It's from around 1200 AD.  The novel actually is about King Arthur.  But the use of precious stones and ivory in place of wood, suggests game pieces and "kurrier," the 12x8 square medieval game. I imagine the "Frouwon" are courtly ladies?

It's a very cryptic reference, but something I was tying to clear up.  Your translation helps.

Looks like a CAPTCHA.

Yes, it's indeed from "Wigalois!"

I just want to be clear on post #39&40.

I made that as a joke. I figured people would catch the humor in it. Considering we was talking about a old Book.

I figured Ziryab and Batgirl would find the humor in it.

Ziryab likes taking crack shots at my punctuation and spell. Yeah I have bad punctuation. I figured I pay him back little bit with that joke. It was a friendly joke nothing malicious.

I have talked with Batgirl a few times on the Kings Gambit. She is a chess romantic.

If anyone was offended about my post #39&40. I would like to make this public apology for the record.

I will mail Batgirl on this issue if she wants me to delete them post I will.

It wasn't funny, it was off-topic and banal and not needed in an interesting Thread; why not just delete it.
