Teaching Children

Sort:

I have been given the opportunity to teach chess to children aged 6 to 10 years in a local school. I would appreciate any help you could give me. I am especially looking for any material that would be suitable for children.

I've never taught chess to a group before and would also appreciate any help you could give me in how to structure the lessons.

I assume it would go something like this

1: how the pieces move

2. how to mate with a king and queen vs king.  how to mate with king and rook vs queen.

3 knight forks, pawn forks, bishop forks, queen forks, rook forks, bishop pins, bishop skewers, rook skewers, etc.

4. control the center, knight on the rim is grim, castle to connect the rooks, etc

5. everyone pick a partner and play a game.
