I just watched the Seventh Seal for the first time. What an amazing movie!
Ingmar Bergman has got to be one of the most creative directors I've seen.
Perhaps I'm biased as a chess fan, but this might be the best movie I've ever seen, and it's in Swedish!
For fun, here is an analysis of the chess game: http://www.empireonline.com/features/seventh-seal-chess-match-analysis.
I loved that movie! One of my all time favourites :)
"This is my hand. I can turn it. The blood is still running in it. The sun is still in the sky and the wind is blowing. And I... I, Antonius Block, play chess with Death."
Also another great Bergman film: Thirst
1957 was not a bad Bergman year, apart from The Seventh Seal there's also Wild Strawberries, which is no less amazing.
