Two questions

Hi everybody,

My game BilliChess is more sophisticated and challenging than chess; it made it to the Intel Level Up 2010 Winners List. I asked the following qoestion on “Yahoo Answers” but I didn’t get any decent answer so far: “a famous quote ab Chess being (the most) intelligent or smart(est) board game (or video game)?”

Also: how many live and online chess tournaments are there? How many players do they involve?

Any inputs will be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Dan

It's not possible to master chess, so you're going to have to be more specific on how it's more challenging and sophisticated.  There are already classic, thousands of years old, respected board games that have a higher game tree complexity so if that's what you're getting at you're about a zillion years too late.  If it's yet another variant, I can hardly begin to express my lack of enthusiasm.  There likely more variants now than there are possible games of chess, each a bigger piece of crap than the one that came before it.

Great name by the way, I could tell it's sophisticated.  "Billy-Chess" says class all the way.

Don't think it'd be worth digging up a quote for you about how great chess is, as you seem to have no respect for it.  I'd point you to some video game review sites about how it's the most smartest, but I really don't think that'd be the place to look.  I mean you already went looking to yahoo answers, and if a bunch of 13 year olds couldn't think it up it must not be out there to find.

No good estimate for total online chess players -- if I had to guess though I'd put it around 60 to 80 thousand.  A lot of those people are very casual players though, many who don't know anything beyond the basic rules of movement.

Why is it called "BilliChess"?

When can we expect to see the, New & Improved, version out called, BilliBobChess?

Well, one glorious day in May this year I thought of coming up with a smarter toy than Rubik’s Cube (I was trying to “see” from the inside the cube). Long story short, at the end of the day I came up with BilliChess, which has nothing to do with Rubik’s Cube and, annoyingly, turned out to make sense as a video game. The concept (that made it to Intel’s Finalist List) can be read at: http://BilliChess.com

Then the executable made it to the Winners List (see it at http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2010/11/30/congratulations-to-the-winners-in-the-professional-category-of-level-up-2010/ ), although with poor graphics, animation, sounds and 0 (ZERO!) “Character Design” (since there are no characters in the game). Why? – cuz the concept is a KO. You can see the tutorial at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIXcd4al6kw

And NO, I never disrespected the glorious game of Chess. I only asked on Yahoo cuz today I had the idea of looking up for the right quote (to use it as a Motto for a business proposal) and couldn’t find it in over 2 hours. And I know how to do a search, but I got frustrated. So I tried here …

Saw the youtube demo, it's creative and nothing wrong with it.  I don't like variants though.  Good luck with it anyway.

Yeah, "BilliChess" doesn't sound very respectable...

Thanks Orange. Problem is that I consider chess to be the smartest (board) game in the history of human kind. Outrageously Wikipedia had some fine (or should I say … “finer”?) words to say about Go, which didn’t help my Motto. So I kept trying for already over 3 hours today to find a famous somebody saying that chess is the smartest one (for certain reasons “most intelligent” would be better). I’ll probably have to rethink my business proposal … design (or how should I call it?)

Why would anyone believe something named "BilliChess", is "(put intelligent motto here)"?

creatip

the logic of the BilliChess name is clearly explained at http://BilliChess.com  (don’t ya worry bout downloading/reading it, it’s just a PDF hosted by a very secure site: keepandshare.com)

It makes perfect sense in given circumstances. Why would some people poke fun at a name? That’s quite disturbing, especially on a site where I was hoping to find higher than average IQ’s.

Just read the logic of it and if you still don’t get it I’ll leave ya alone, you name callers

orangehonda

Billiard chess, I get it.

BTW us chess guys aren't so smart, we just happen to have spent a lot of time working on a very specific skill set (chess skill) that hardly applies to anything else in life.  Two biggest misconceptions about chess players are 1) They're smart and 2) Good players are good because they can "see" many moves ahead.

Billi(goat)chess won't make it far on this site. There's too many trolls.

Personally, I don't think the game looks that exciting. The chess part is chess, the billiards part bears no resemblance to billiards.

creatip - your market research on the name is before you.  wouldn't dismiss it as trolling.

My constructive input - I chuckled when I read 'billichess.'  It sounded funny.  Why?  I thought about it.  Billygoats, yes.  Then it hit me.  It's sounds like it's short for 'Hillbilly Chess.'

So, the most intelligent game ever is Hillbilly Chess.  Don't even want to think about mating.

Does this mean that every game is a Karo Cann?  If we've got to play the Hillbilly Attack, I want the black side!

If this was a serious discussion, I'd suggest the name KillBillChess.

1. Compared to BilliChess, Khet is just a joke; 2. I love 4 movies by Tarantino. "KillBill" is not among them ...
