What Records or Achievements Have You Done in Chess or nonChess?

My rating has never been over 1000, though I'm about 50 years old.  (I didn't play any Chess beyond a handful of games until I was 45, so I got started kind of late.)

I once beat a grandmaster.

Well, ok, technically, he isn't a grandmaster, but he will be.  He's currently the highest rated 11 year old in the US.

I played him five years ago at a club.  The club met at a local Border's.  At one point in the game, his dad bought him ice cream.  He was kind of distracted and let me fork a knight and bishop.  I managed to hold on for the win.

I'm pretty sure that's the closest I'll ever get to beating a grandmaster.

AlxMaster

* I activated "invincible" cheat in 007 goldeneye 64. Anyone who knows what I'm talking about knows it's a superhuman achievement. Walking diagonally, like a bishop spy, is very helpful btw. Seriouly, this is not a joke.

* Oh and also, I beated just everyone who crossed my path, in Marvel vs Street Fighter. And by everyone, I mean... EVERYONE, using Hulk + Ryu. I used to know just the right time, milisecondly, of delivering a super-punch.

* Improved 600 chess rating points in 1 year.

* I once got lost inside a rainforest and got out alive. (I don't recommend anyone to do that).

* threw a magic the gathering card which became stuck between a very thin line in my closet, when it was manually impossible to place it there.

* Held my breath 3 minutes.

* Am a virgin at 25+ years old.

* Got a Youtube channel with 4.5 million views and another one with 20 million.

* Earned 10,000 dollars from internet.

* Crossed half India by bus in 72 consecutive hours.

* Was able to buy at the market for free for winning a random prize.

* Skewed one year preschool for being far more intelligent than the other kids (and honestly than adults too).

I can't play those games. The shifting perspective gives me motion sickness.

AlxMaster  tell us what it actually is? [more details?]

TheGrobe

I can mix up a Rubik's Cube faster than anyone I know.

I also once flipped a coin and got heads three times in a row, which is braggable.

ponz111

TheGrobe  do you mean mix up or solve Rubik's Cube?

Many years ago I played poker with this rich kid. We were about 10 years old and I would always win money from him.

At one time he accused me of having some type of extra power. And for some reason I decided to flip a coin and call heads or tails.

I flipped the first two times and got it right. I knew each time I had 50-50 odds.  I tried the 3rd time and got it right.  I knew that was one chance in 8 to guess 3 times in a row.  Flipped again and again right--one chance in 16  did it again and got it right 1 chance in 32.  Did the coin flip one more time and got it right again!  One chance in 64.

Now while this kid [rich kid] did not know the odds--he knew that me guessing right 6 times in a row had to confirm I had some kind of extra power.

So he refused to play me again. I realized that me predicting those coin flips was one of the dumbest things I could do  Cry  I lost a valuable source of income...

When I was a 1400-rated kid I won money blitz with an experienced and much older 2000-rated player. He was not going to pay but there were too many kibitzes around who told him they would never again play with him for money unless he pays what he lost.

So, I got my money because he was a chess gambler and never played casual games for free. The kibitzes applauded me because they did not like the guy. He used to cheat on clock (setting like 5 minutes against 4 at the beginning) and won many matches (nevertheless he was quite a strong player).

He never played against me anymore, being afraid of losing to a kid Laughing

Rybka  that is impressive!

JMB2010

At my peak I was #2 in the country for my age group.

Pretty random, but some I can think of...

Chess: Beating a CM (admittedly not a proper OTB game).

180 on a magnetic dartboard (The darts barely fit).

5 strikes in a row in tenpin bowling.

Beat an England junior at table tennis (I was a junior too).

Played district level tennis.

100% in accounting module at university.

Sub 50 second Royal Raceway Mario Kart 64 (don't remember exact time).

19 minute 5k (not that impressive really but I was happy).

3 pars and a birdie in 4 holes (as a high handicapper), and 31 on a par 3 course (4 over).

19 min 5 k is not just impressive, its pretty well unbelievable - who did the timekeeping!

My claim to chess fame is just qualifying for the third round of a chess.con tournament. All the rest are going to be 2100/2200 I think so if I can scrape up two draws I'll be happy (but that's what I thought in both the previous rounds so who knows).

Well, if I kept up that pace for a marathon, I'd be almost 15 minutes outside my dad's best time, but thanks.

Ziryab

I introduced chess to Europe twelve centuries ago.

Conflagration_Planet

I won a game once, here on Chess.com.

I learned how to play the King Pawn Opening, here on chess.com.

DrCheckevertim

I have more friends on chess.com than on facebook.

markgravitygood  you, a 1500 rated player are saying some accomplishments at a much higher chess level are B.S.?  And some of us men always like to hear about techniques of dealing with the opposite sex.

TKACHS

My father brought back a GO set from Japan with poorly written instructions. He told me to figure it out, which I managed to do, and then taught him, and later in college several friends. After graduation frequented a GO club in NYC. When I traveled in Mainland China was able to win some games against those skeptical that I actually knew the game.

Similar situation in Chinese Chess, which I learned from a girl friend's sister. After playing 6 months or so went to Mainland China, and had a good winning record against those who thought they would have to show me the moves.

You should play Farmville and Slotomania. You'll get more friends on FB that way.
