Best to study your games. Play online chess and let them become works in progress. You can spend a fortune on books and just spin your wheels. you're in my group, follow my advice in lesson 001 :)
When you study Grandmaster Games?
Buy the Tal! It's a lot of fun with a bunch of great games and anecdotes.
Oh yeah, and annotate your own games too.
For me, Grandmaster games. Players only a little higher than you will still play rather flawed chess. Choose the best kind of examples to try and emulate.
When studying games from a book, try to guess what your move would be and then compare your conclusions with the player's/author's and try to find lessons to take out of it.

There is a book called Chess Master vs. Chess Amateur by Max Euwe and Walter Meiden, written in English Descriptive notation. I doubt it's in PGN anywhere...
Tal was not only a brilliant player... he was also a very entertaining writer and story-teller.
And you'll be able to read all about the hippo in the mud!

Ouch, i think it is time as it may get very violent in here. I prefer my violent moves on the board. Hey i said let me get out the way .....
Is it better to study grandmaster games or games by people a little better than me? I was thinking of purchasing The Complete Book of Tal's Game..its his autobiography. Question is. how does one get the most out of it?
