Who is Best - the final thread

Welcome to the Tournament of Grandmasters!

Once and for all we will be able to answer the question 'Who is the best player ever?' The Tournament of Grandmasters has brought together some of the greatest chess players ever to compete for the title of 'Greatest Player Ever'.

The tournament will feature three rounds in the following format (all time limits will be 30 minutes/game):

Round 1:

  • 15 players will be broken down into 3 groups of 5.
  • Within each group, players will play each other twice.
  • The top two in each group will move on to the next round.

Round 2:

  • 6 players who qualified will come together and play a match style format
  • Each player will play each other twice.
  • The top two finishers will move on to the Championship round.

Championship Round:

  • The top two finishers from round 2 will face off against each other in 4 games.
  • The winner will be crowned as Best Player Ever!

Here is the break down of the groups:

  • Group #1: Anderssen, Chigorin, Capablanca, Korchnoi, Fischer
  • Group #2: Steinitz, Lasker, Alekhine, Tal, Karpov
  • Group #3: Morphy, Nimzowitsch, Botvinnik, Spassky, Anand

i used my wits and i managed to assembly all these amazing players to my house where over the next few weeks they have agreed to play each other for the title of 'Best Player Ever!'

it took a little convincing, but i eventually got them all to agree.

(it's being played out on chessmaster: grandmaster edition.)

Wow that Tal game was bad, and that bishop sac looked more like a fischer bishop sac.
