Winning a boring game

I just played a guy who had the black pieces in the Caro Kann Defense.  I had a little development lead and then picked up a couple of pawns by move 30.

He grimly held on as I started to advance my two passers down the board, then lost quickly when I got a rook on the 7th rank and was one move from mate when he resigned.

Been there, done that.  Such is chess.

So, he began to flame me for playing "boring" chess, that my style wasn't "interesting" and on and on and on...Of course, he didn't want to play again because he said: "I play chess not to win, but to learn and I can learn nothing playing with you."

I guess he expected to sac my queen or something to attack the super solid Caro Kann and beat him in ten moves instead of forty?

Play a slow opening, lose and gripe that the other guy is too boring for you - priceless.

Take pride in that label.  I am someone that gets called "boring" too, because i dont play flashy, tactical, gambiting chess.  I prefer to wear them down, and watch them squirm :-)

You win some, you lose some, but why be so petty as to flame when you lose?  Compliment your opponent or say nothing.  After all, he was good enough to be beat you...

Maybe the funniest flame is the guy who loses like five in a row to you, then squeaks out a win on the clock while down in material and starts the trash talking.

I don't mind.  I can give as good as I get.  But, don't people see how lame they are?
