winning on time

imgreatplayingchess

On Monday, I won on time with a junior opponent, it was king v king and pawn> I had the king and pawn, if it hadnt been a win on time, it would have been a draw, as i made a mistake at last min. The game itself was very close. I was just wondering if this counts as a good win or is it not good to win like this? Im 50-50 and dont know what to think about this win. I would be grateful for any responses. Danny

There's art art to winning on time. Your rating still goes up no matter how you win.

BrilliantChess303

The game may have been drawn, but you still won. A win is a win regardless of of the way it is achieved.

Not sure it's art. Some people are better with mouse, use premoves. I don't think winning like that is chess. It's a game who is better at shuffling. It happend to me many times and it's silly.

Sweetest win in the world is to win on time when you have only King and  Pawn and your  opponent has like a Queen and both Rooks and your pawn is blocked by three of his pawns and a Knight and Bishop and you get the win because your stupid little pawn could theoretically be promoted .

Even better is when his flag falls under that scenario and you only have like 1/10 of a second left on your clock.

It's like having an orgasm.

Really? I lost several games on time where i was one move from checkmate. Ok, i'm terrible at time management but it's my fault not opponent's achievement. What is so enjoyable to win against a peason who is like a bull in a china shop with his mouse? It means that your level is very low and it's your only chance to have a victory. It's pathetic.

Winning on time IS the achievement, it don't matter how far ahead you are in the game, when your  flag falls you LOSE. End of story. Go cry about it if you can find someone else who cares.

I don't mind winning on time it's a rule but i don't understand how it's possible to enjoy such situations like you described. I feel sorry for a guy who has a complete winning position but runs out of time. I'm trying to have decent games but not flagging opponents.

Perhaps if you consider 'time' as 17th piece. Just like the other 16, it has to be managed and used to its fullest extent. Granted, it is not something you can physically see or touch. But it is just as vital as a queen or rook.

BrilliantChess303

In chess, it's not just about checkmating your opponent, but also being able to manage your time. If you can manage your time better than your opponent can, it's a win, and vice versa. You can't deny a win.

As kay said: A win is a win. You are victorious. Celebrate!

It's not. When you have absolutely drawish position but winning because of pieces shuffling. Maybe you play against a guy who doesn't know 50 move rule or he doesn't know how to claim a draw(which we see sometimes). Or we play against someone who doesn't use premoves(like me but i consider to try it out) but you do. Or this guy is clumsy with his mouse. I agree win is win but it's not art or something to be proud of except maybe bullet.

Every win is something to be proud of. Perhaps to varying degrees. But, yes, a win is a win. And you won becuase you did something better than your opponent. (or at least not as badly)

Don't try and steal my thunder.Laughing

I wish he were so we didn't have to listen to him anymore.

Winning on time might not make you as happy as winning by checkmate or your opponent's resignation, but it's still a win. It's illogical to deny a win.
