You are a herd animal if you play Main Lines

Ok ,  Main Lines are pretty boring  from an objective point of view.

It seems like in the Chess Universe , those who play Main Lines are gregarious people , not only them, nerds do it too and of course they are in the same gregarious group of people although they don´t accept it.

Deforestation is one of the consequences of this waste of natural resources in print books about Main Lines.

Nerds too are killing the chess with this attitude. Tell me where is the point  in study the Ruy Lopez until the move 24 or the overused Dragon  until the move 33.

You are not a GM    , don´t lie yourself, and you won´t become in one of them  playing the same stuff.

For instance, ¿ do you remember the World Championship Match  Anand - Carlsen right?   Tell me , for what reason  Vishy Anand  played like a coward the Berlin Ending-Variation  ( Trade Queens in 10 moves)   in the Ruy Lopez  over and over again  , as white and as black ? What kind of flock animal strategy is this one?

This was just ridicolous,  Anand preparation only can be understandable in a gregarious mind.  At the end of the match is when he played a crazy line and of course it was very late and Carlsen punished him  ( you can´t expect to be good in tactics if you are playing idiot lines like the berlin ending everyday) .

Here are some of my recommendations for open minds.

Open Sicilian as Black :  1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.  d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 d5!?

Vienna Game as Black : 1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 c5!?  or  1.e4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3. f4 d5  4. fxe5 Nxe4 5.Nf3  g5!?

Latvian Gambit : 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 f5!? 3.Nxe5 Qf6 ( Of course Nc6 line is not playable because is 100% refuted )

Hippopotamus Defense :  ok this is a funny set up , with your  pawns in third rank  a6-b6-d6-e6-g6-h6 , Bishops in b7-g7 and Knights in d7-e7 .  Nerds lose their minds when they face vs this Defense.

Reti Gambit : 1.e4 e6 2. b3!?  d5  3. Bb2!  probably one of the most profitable systems vs the French Defense although engine evaluation is equal since the second move.

The Matrix Chess :   It´s a chess system similar to Hippo Defense. The point is to play your queen to h5 or f3 and a bishop in c4  with a mate threat in f7  .  You can use it in some openings like king´s pawn openings, sicilians or modern defense .

mcmodern

play what ever you are comfortable with, main line or other wise.

LOL, that was hilarious. Reminds me a bit of cheater_1 - it's not quite on his level, but bears some similarities with his work. Hope you keep up the good work - I'd love to see what a cheater_1 2.0 can do on today's chess.com forums.

that´s not a good advice mcmodern,  it´s not the same t0 be a herd animal than an hippopotamus f0r example.

Funny typography... that's another parallel with cheater_1! You're doing a great job!

It doesn't make for as good of a troll, but I was hoping for more unreadableness.

Like:

Tell me where is the point  in study the Ruy Lopez until 24 when move and to study 33 to it?

That's just a personal preference :P

I did have a good laugh after reading the first sentence though :)

MrKornKid

The only reason I kind of agree with the title is because I am wayyy too lazy to learn openings.  my fault only.

macer75

I'm also a fan of the first sentence. My favorite part though is the line about deforestation.

Grillmeister

I will pronounce this with swedish accent: The sheepest way to safety, is to stei in the middel of the herd. Wink

If I were Anand, I would certainly appreciate the OP's advice on how to improve my tactics!

didibrian
Ok....
HenryJonesVictor

I... actually appreciated OP's advice.

...guys?

TheBlunderfulPlayer

Please quit the nonsense.

Avoiding mainlines at all costs makes you just as much a flock animal as playing only mainlines. The only way to avoid the influence of "the herd" is to let your opening choices depend on the nature of the positions you reach, regardless whether they are mainline or not.

So I have to second mcmodern: really breaking the flocking spell means simply to play what you like or feel comfortable with. For some this may be berlin walls, for others hippopotamuses...

blitzcopter

"Ok ,  Main Lines are pretty boring  from an objective point of view."

I don't think you understand what "objective" means.

starrynight14

Human beings are a herd animal.

dpnorman

I'm glad you feel accomplished after having wasted those precious minutes of your life typing this troll post.

batgirl

Why play the main line when there are faster ways to lose?

lolurspammed

What's wrong with just playing the best move in the position, or the move you understand the best? Playing inferior moves that you don't even understand in a certain position because its unknown is silly strategy. There are openings listed like the Reti gambit which aren't terrible and can give white a reasonable game, but recommending the Latvian is a bit much.

ILLYRIA

The good part of this to remember is to not always play into your opponent's preparation.   In a world where everyone is just making the moves they're "supposed to" for the first 10 moves, maybe diverging from the known line sooner is better.   There may be an initiative advantage to be gained by being the one who breaks from the line first.  Obviously this will be true only some of the time and only against some players.  But if you get the sense your opponent is one of those who zip through the opening without really understanding why they're doing those moves, then that's the best time to trip them up by departing from those moves.  Which makes them "think," which makes them fail.
