The author does not seem to think we are real :) But if he is so sure of that, then why he writes this here? If we are just a mental projection of his dreams and whatsoever, then posting here is useless. Especially, taking into account that this site is devoted to chess.

He doesn't believe that we don't exist in any practical way. He only supposes that, theoretically, we don't exist. Many people get their kicks from attempting to actually believe the academic philosophies. When push comes to shove, though, we all agree, if only through our actions and choices, that there is an empirical truth-- and that we're all a part of it. A philosophy with no practical purpose is rubbish. Luckily, after high school most people get over the novelty of feeling intellectually superior through a very basic understanding of a useless discipline.
