can't make moves on board

Since today or yesterday, I've started getting this problem really frequently. After making a move in the analysis board (after clicking "Analyze" from a game page) or on a game page, if I then take back that move using the '<' buton, the board will no longer allow me to make another move. It behaves exactly as it does when you try to move yourself into check or make an illegal move: the piece just snaps back to the square it was on. This has happened on quite a few different games now, and there's definitely nothing wrong with the moves that I'm trying to make, because if I reload the page, it will usually work initially (until I've moved once or twice). This has never happened for me before about a day ago (happened lots this morning and this evening, but I can't remember if it happened last night or not).

I'm using Firefox 3.6 on Linux, which is the same browser I've been using for months.

[edit: would an admin please change the title to "can't make moves on board"?]

Hi Sapientdust

Which game was it?

Opponents username?

Which move were you trying to make when this happened?

Thanks, oinquarki. I expected to see a way to edit the title from this page, but that works now that I know about it.

The problem has occurred with many different games (at least 5). It always happened when it was my turn to move, and since I don't have any games waiting for moves at the moment, I can't give you a specific game right now. I made moves in about 8 games just now, and it happened in at least 3 of those games. Each time it happened, I had to reload the page completely, and then I could make the move that it wouldn't let me make previously.

If you didn't update any code within the last 24 hours or so, then it could be something weird going on with my browser. I'll make a note of the game and move number next time it happens, but like I said, it's only happened when it was my move so far (although that's the only time I try to move the pieces usually too).

Okay, it's happening again. In the following game:

After 9... Rf8 was played, on the main game page, I clicked back a few moves and then forward a few moves to come back to the current position, and when I try to do 10. h2-h4, the pawn just jumps back to h2 when I release the button while holding the pawn over h4. The same happens if I try to do any other move as well.

I reloaded the page, and then I was able to move the pawn to h4. I then reloaded again, and moved one move back and then one move forward (to be in same position), and I was no longer able to make the h4 pawn move or any other move.

I restarted my browser, making sure the process was gone, and I can reproduce the problem. First time okay, but after doing one move back then one move forward, it doesn't work any longer. I also tried disabling my browser cache to make sure I'm using the latest versions of all files, and that makes no difference.

Are you still getting this problem ?

sapientdust

No, it stopped within a week or so, and I never found out the cause.
