This has been happening for almost 6 months, I can do it on one computer but can't on this one that I normally use, Do you have any suggestions? Is it something to do with pop-ups?

The first questions I ask myself:

1. Which window should I be getting?  http://www.chess.com/js/tiny_mce/plugins/chessdiagram/chessdiagram.html?v3101b.

2. What happens if I type this URL explicitly into the browser on the machine where the pop-up doesn't appear?

3. What's different between the two machines (in terms of the OS and the browser)?

4. Does the same problem occur with ALL browsers (IE7, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera)?

5. Do I get the same problem with any other button? e.g. Insert/edit image

I allow the pop-up to work for the chess.com here, using IE7.

It's just the same, white screen as before.

The one that works is a laptop, the other one that doesn't work is a desktop. on the laptop, I use Google Chrome (firefox crashed, won't load still trying to fix) on the desktop I can use google chrome/firefox, google chrome is more preferred but I have tried it with firefox and the problem still keeps sitting there.

4. Does the same problem occur with ALL browsers (IE7, Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Opera)?

I don't use Internet explorer, it's available but  I don't like to as the staff don't recommend it. it still doesn't work on that one either. Chrome, Firefox still have the same problem, Don't have safari/opera.

5. Do I get the same problem with any other button? e.g. Insert/edit image

I get the problem with doing it all, the little chain button has the same problem, putting in smiley faces = same problem, putting in images = same problem. putting in puzzles = same problem.

I could try changing the pop-up settings within Google Chrome ...

 Follow these steps (for Windows):

  1. Click the Tools tools menu menu.
  2. Select Options.
  3. Click the Under the Hood tab.
  4. Click Content settings in the "Privacy" section.
  5. Click the Pop-ups tab.
  6. HAVE I GOT "Allow all sites to show pop-ups." OR "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)" SELECTED?
  7. Select "Allow all sites to show pop-ups." (OR You can customize permissions for specific websites by clicking Exceptions: in which case, I could add www.chess.com and click Add.)
  8. Click Close to save your setting.

The funny thing is: using Google Chrome on my desktop, I actually have Do not allow any site to show pop-ups (recommended)" set, with no exceptions, but chess.com pop-ups still work fine.

Do you have the same security suite on both computers?

And if so what is it?

When did the problem of blank page occur?

Did you install any new software?

Did you update any program?

The problem is not actually on any of my computers (see post #1).

From the symptoms, browser settings to do with pop-ups still seems to me to be the most likely cause.

1. Which setting did you try: Allow ALL sites... or adding an exception for chess.com?

2. Are there any other websites that don't work properly from your laptop?

3. What about the JavaScript settings? (Tools, Options, Under the hood, Content settings, JavaScript).           Have you got Allow all sites to run JavaScript (recommended) set?

Could it be that your browser security setting is too restrictive? (Although this would only apply to IE6 or IE7 - not Chrome).

artfizz

Try this.

Clearing cookies in Internet Explorer 7

  1. Select Tools > Internet Options.
  2. Click on the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. Scroll down to the Scripting section.
  5. Select Enable for Active Scripting and Scripting of Java Applets.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select YES if a box appears to confirm.
  8. Click OK. Close window.
  9. Reload page.

Since all the buttons in the Forum text editor use JavaScript, the problem must be with JS. Try downloading the latest version.

Chrome: clear all browsing data (Tools, Options, Under the bonnet, Clear browsing data, ...)

At the very least: Empty the cache, delete cookies and clear saved form data.

Any risks of clearing the cache?/delete cookies/clear saved form data? :)

Cookies: you'll lose any website passwords you've saved in the browser.

Form data: you'll lose your all your saved details such as email address, zip code, etc. It just means that the next time you log into any website you've used before, you'll have to supply all of your login credentials from scratch; no big deal.

Cache: it will take a few milliseconds longer to access any web site - but only on the first time.
