no live chess on windows 8.1?

Just got a new computer yesterday with Windows 8.1.  I have tried to play live chess with IE 11, Chrome, and Firefox and the live chess server will not load in any of them.... anybody else having this problem?

Nothing to do with your operating system, that is Windows 8.1 but either your Internet connection or the Chess.com server.

same as IBPME, I have windows 8.1, and everyrthing is fine

i got my new 8.1 laptop. everything works just fine on chess.com

No expert here but do you have Java enabled?

You don't need Java to play on chess.com.

You most definitely need Java to play vs computer.

You don't need Java for Live Chess. Odd that all the browsers display the same problem. I'm not sure of the communication protocols of Chess.com through the browser, but check your firewall/anti-virus. Disable anything you have, give it a go.

You're right, I stand corrected. I don't usually play against the computer but rather on Live Chess and Online Chess which do not require Java.

Can anybody download chesspad 2 on windows 8.1?  My Norton Antivirus doesn't trust it...

I have Win 7, and I just downloaded it. I have an old copy that I downloaded 2 years ago, and it's the same file.

I uploaded the file to VirusTotal, and it got 56 of 57 clean scans. The only bad scan was Symantec (Norton AV, I guess). My guess is it's a false positive.

The trick was to install chess pad 2.02, which Norton liked fine, rather than 2.03, which it removed fast as I downloaded it.  Thanks for the tip.

I have chess.com listed on my favorites, it opens for me to play live chess on, with Mozilla and MSIE;  of course you have to tap the touchpad with the cursor over the piece to move it.

I guess what I was trying to imply was that ver 2.0.3 is probably OK (I've used it some over the last two years with no squawking from my system). I'd be willing to bet that it's just Norton being overzealous. You'd probably be safe to tell Norton to unquarantine the file or to not delete it in the first place, but I guess you have to be able to sleep at night.

well thats great but I am not a computer programer . if you buy a computer you either get windows or apple. I dont have time to write code and constantly play with my operating system. thats what I pay this site to do. keep up with the technology so I can play chess!

You have made the assumption that ,

1. You need to be a computer programmer

2. That you need to write code in order to somehow get your operating system to work

3. That you need to, 'play', with your operating system after you install it.

Linux is no more difficult to install and maintain than Windows or any other operating system.  Infact you can download and burn a disk just to try it.  Best thing I ever did was ditch Windows :D
