I've had a similar thing happen to me. Yet on my opponents screen, his board was correct. I believe This "glitch" you and I experienced was visible only to you and me. Also, while it looked like a queen on your screen I am willing to bet on his it was a rook.
In my situation my opponent played the typical Bg7 and when he did, it disappeared off of the board. I normally don't chat when I play but I asked him if he could see his bishop on g7 and he did. Then when I tried to move my DSB, holy smokes, there was his bishop completely underneath my bishop!
Chalk it up to a glitch by the server. I reckon your opponent was wondering what you were talking about.

I bet all would love to know. It's the $64,000.00 question. Take a look at the pic below. My opponent's bishop on g7 disappeared on my screen but was visible on his on g7. When I grabbed my dsb, I found his bishop completely hidden underneath mine! I thought, wth-e-double hockey sticks, and unintentionally dropped my bishop on the square you see.
My opponent's bishop said, "Boo!" to my queen and scared her white, lol. Maybe it was probably a special teleport move, for a new variation of chess called tele-chess 3000, where pieces can teleport and under enemy pieces for the perfect ambush, lol.

I saw the same thing on one of my games, but only after it was over. The PNG file I downloaded through the app (Chess Play and Learn; Android) generated the Rook instead of King. I figured it was corrupt somehow, re-downloaded it from the website, and that file was fine. Must be exceedingly frustrating for it to happen in the actual game.
After my opponent castled his rook turned into a queen. and he moved his other rook and it turned into a king.
I had to discontinue this game because i couldn't concentrate on what was happening. and my opponent was a total @$$hole about it! why did this happen and how can i prevent it from happening again. is it a cookites thing?
