Can't people use engines during games

chessbeginner77

Not likely or their rating would be like 2500+ with no title.

But how would chess.com now

Engine moves are different from human ones. Check more about it in FAQ.

You read the TOS when you joined, so you know the answer to your own question.

MSC157's response is a little strange and I don't think it's really what he means.

Of course engine moves are different from human ones, engine moves are perfect.

I think what he means is that human fabricated mistakes to make play look "authentic" is different from legitimate mistakes made by players who simply have a certain skill level in chess.

Hi Bolt,

Engine use is forbidden on chess.com and unlawful to your opponents, who expect to play human opponents here.

The sanction for engine use is a permanent ban.

But I was playing a game and he took a really long time on his move and then he played a master move so I started suspecting he used an engine

If you suspect someone of engine use, you can report them. Someone will surely provide the link.

If I am not mistaken, there it is: https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new

Also, engines use THE EXACT same moves every time.  So, if you take a game, and you play the same moves against an engine, the engine will spit out the exact same moves.
Chess.com has a crew that know how to do these types of tests.  Heavy engine users are pretty easy to spot.  Also, they are usually gonna be WELL above 2000.
At the 1500-1600 level, you are gonna run into players who can throw down some PRETTY mean combos, not really a 'sign' of an engine IMO.
