Not allowed to play a legal move - bug?

Sort:

Hi there,

This is my first post on here, am a member over a year and a half, lovin' the site. But tonight I had an unusual experience. In an endgame where I was marginally up in both material and time against a higher-ranked opponent, I was not allowed to make a legal move. Forced to spend time trying this move a few times but to no avail, I was thus forced into playing a weak move, thus losing the game as a result. I've reviewed the game to assure myself that it wasn't a wrong assumption on my part due to time pressure.

So - anyone got any ideas as to the cause? Any info of this much appreciated.

Opps, slight error above - was down a pawn but opponent was in serious time pressure.

kco

think you can post the game here ?

edit: to Andy Tongue Out

Which game was it? (a link would be nice)

You deserve it for using "thus" twice in a sentence.

You are on double secret probation mister!

That third thus was on purpose - opps, make that 4!

So it goes to an endgame where the pawns are tied up, I'd  something like 30 seconds on him, maybe 50 sec v 20 sec or thereabouts. All I have to do is keep coming back to the D3 square to keep thinks locked, but after a few times doing this, it won't let me. I was thus (he,he) forced into moving 53: D2, thus (sorry!) allowing him / her in to mop up.

To be clear - I actually lost on time in the end, but this was due to the time lost due to whatever happened.

Thank you, kcoSmile

Well, that's strange.  (You do seem to be winning though after 55 a5.)

Good point Andy - only noticing that myself now! That's time pressure for ya. Was intent on locking things up, whatever happened to prevent 53: D3 threw me for a loop.

That is very strange.  I think you should bring it to the attention of the staff.

I have had the same problem several times and just posted a comment on the Live Chess forum: actually two comments.  For the last week, in every game I play, there is always at least one to four pieces which are extremely hard to move.  Sometimes it takes up to 60 seconds to move the piece, and I have to keep clicking on the piece and the destination square like 50 or 60 times before I can get it to move.  And these are perfectly legal moves.

This is very frustrating when you're playing with time pressure, and this makes me want to go back to Yahoo Chess, because this problem takes away from my enjoyment of the game.

Do you know if there is another way to move the pieces besides clicking on your mouse, like using your keyboard instead?  We may need to do this until the computer technologists or system administrators correct this annoying handicap.

The same thing happens on online chess, so when I try playing my move, the piece is "stuck" to my mouse, and will not stop moving around with it unless I refresh the page. Luckily my phone still allows me to play my move, but it is annoying.

Grandmasta23

try right clicking with the mouse

Grandmasta23

go into live settings and it should be under one of the things . What is happening is you automatically are watching the top game

EarendilMariner

Right clicking on the pieces does not help.  The only way to move those stuck pieces is by clicking about 50 or 60 times.
