I was wondering If chess.com could implement a "take back your last move" option in live chess (of course the opponent would have to agree). I've played some games where my opponent made a serious blunder that cost him the game and I would've loved to let him take back that move and continue battling the game out. ^_^

Yes, I know other live chess servers have this feature. I assume sometime in the future there will be a "takeback request" button added where you can request to takeback a move and then the opponent can either accept or decline the request.

However, I assume the time for the decision would be expended from the requester's allotted time?

Typically if a takeback is granted, the clocks would be reset to wherever they were prior to the blunder.

I'm a fan of a very 'purist' chess site.  The takeback option taints that a bit but I must admit it's an idea... guess I'll remain neutral :)

was there ever a submit move button in live chess? for some reason it feels like i have seen two little boxs were one had a check in it and one had an x for submit move in live chess, but remember turning it off and never see the option for submit move anymore.

the only thing worse than losing a game is losing the same game ten times overSmile

Live chess is only touch move...

Keep in mind that the "purity" of the site can remain in your games... This feature is on at least one other major "live" chess site, and it works quite well. Simply put, if you don't want to allow takebacks (which is typically the attitude I adopt when I've played there), for any reason, that is your right. The takeback button is simply a request, the opponent must agree before any move is undone.

this will be helpful for mouse slips. We should call it the mouse slip buttonLaughing.

If It's obvious that it was a mouse slip or worse a total mouse failure I'll offer my opponent a draw I see this as good sportsmanship . but in the case of a total mouse failure accepting the draw can be difficult!

I also think that there should be a "never accept takebacks" button so that the opponent doesn't even have the opportunity to ask

Really, I think it should be in good fun. It's more about you learning than actually winning the game. I don't really see a problem with a takeback request button for friendly games. Of course it'd be disabled for tournaments...

For a number of reasons, I would prefer there to be no take-back request button, but I can understand that others might have a different view.

If Erik is planning to introduce one, maybe he could put it to a vote first to gauge the mood of the member base, or have an "always refuse" flag, as broze suggests.
