How many modes of chess do you play? More precisely, how good would you score (rating on chess.com) if you played at that speed in a opponent who had 90 min + 30 increment? And what speed do you prefer?
I have a few thinking modes,
1 min Bullet: I play lots of premoves which are my first thoughts of development or waiting moves. Rating should be about 300. TIMEOUT = approx. 33% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 50%
2 min: I drag a piece onto the square I want to move it to during my opponent's move. Unless I am alerted it is a blunder by feeling, I'll drop the piece. Rating = approx. 400 TIMEOUT = approx. 20% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 33%
5 min: I play my first non-blunder move considered, however I miss many tactical opportunities by myself and my opponent. Rating = approx. 600 TIMEOUT = approx. 10% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 90%
15 min: I consider non-blunder and development moves, and at crucial moments stop and consider what to move. I miss some one move tactics by myself and opponent still. Rating = approx. 1000 TIMEOUT = approx. 5% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 95%
30 min: I have some thoughts and check all appealing moves. Then I calculate and decide quickly. I stop at some moves. Rating = approx. 1200 TIMEOUT = approx. 2% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 80%
30 30: At every move I consider all candidate moves that are slightly appealing to me as well as the obvious ones. I should not be missing one move tactics at this time control. Rating = approx. 1300 TIMEOUT = approx. 1% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 20%
45 45: On every move I consider all possible choices other than the ones that plain give away material. Calculations are as deep as neccessary. Rating = approx. 1350 TIMEOUT = approx. 0% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 0%
90 30: Deep analysis of every move possible in every move. Rating = approx. 1400 TIMEOUT = approx. 0% TIME TROUBLE = approx. 0%
As you can see I have a few main thinking modes, bullet (1-2 min), blitz (5-10 min), slow blitz (15-30 min), standard (30 30 - 90 30). 30 30 or longer are my favourite time controls.
