What do you do about rude players?

Sort:
PleasantGame

The majority of people who I meet and play here on chess.com are pleasant and courteous, but I occasionally run into someone who is not quite so pleasant. Is there a way to block those folks from accepting any future seeks that I create? I don't care enough to report them; I just don't want to spend my time playing them again in the future, and I don't want to have to keep a list of who I want to avoid. Is there a feature that I'm missing?

See end of this page to block users. It should be a block everything setting not just what is described.

you can just create seeks, and if you run into a rude palyer, you can abort the game(if you did not make a move)

The official link describing this. "Blocking a member means that you will not be paired with them in open challenges."

fortunately, i've only ever encountered 1 rude player, and that was during a live chess match. i just ignored it ... since it's unlikely i'll run into him again.

but i think blocking players is a good idea ...

Tell them they are rude. Try to make it witty, so others can be entertained. People have never had a problem telling meLaughing

Or, just leave, or don't respond.

another kind of rudeness, which I suspect, but can't prove, is when people disconnect deliberately from the live chess program when they're losing a game.   In a way it doesn't matter because if you're ahead and your opponent disconnects, then you win ("game abandoned").  But it is rude.  If you've been outplayed it's more courteous to resign and congratulate your opponent.  Maybe I should think of blocking people who do this, but as I say, it's impossible to prove.

in my 199 games only one player was rude and started to call me names. I just laughed and thought ,,what a fooll, this won't safe you''. I beated him and after 4-5 days his acount were closed. I think he is back now, he changed a name a little bit and chalanged me again, but i refused

I go the 'Holier than thou' route and feel smug that I'm such a charmer!

Bit difficult if they cream you though....

I don't play rude players, if it happens in the middle of a game, I just quit the game. I'd rather take a loss (it's just a game) rather than stay in a game with a rude or nasty person. Then I make sure to block them so I will never see them here again. Simple

It might be interesting if there was a QUIT - IN DISGUST! button alongside the RESIGN button (or a box to optionally add your reason for resigning); then save this information along with the game - and make it visible.

If you are playing a live chess game and the other player is rude, just select their name in the games tab ,right click and select block member you will never play them again :).See example below ...btw this person was NOT rude to me just and example.

Maybe a naive question, but if the person used really offensive language, should I report that to somebody?

yes you can report it by clicking on the 'Help and Support' link down below on the page

I have come across a scenario couple of times, where the player opposite to m was on the verge losing the match. He kept on waiting for the copulsory move after which it was checkmate and the time run out for him.

I won on time however the points I rceieved were less compared to checkmate.

This goes against the sportsman spirit.
