I heard something about the British & German soldiers drinking together in bars after a long day of fighting, but I have heard different versions of this story.  One has it as WWI, another as WWII.  I also heard that this was a one-time thing during the holidays, and then I also heard that it was fairly common.  Does anybody know the real story?  Is it even true at all, or just an urban legend?  Thank you!

I don't know which war it was (My guess would by WWI), but I think it did happen, and not just as a one time thing.

Thank you Ninja, that is pretty amazing.  I mean, I wonder how the logistics could be worked out.  Who would think of it, and then propose it to the enemy?  Who would dare leave his drink unguarded for even a second, say to relieve himself, knowing that there are enemies all around (and I believe that chemical warfare was used in WWI).  At the very least, it must have made doing battle that much harder the next day!

I heard a story about WW1, on a Christmas eve, they stopped fighting to have a football match.

That's the way I would do it!  A basis in fact for that movie "Victory", with Pele & Sylvester Stallone!  Do we know who won the game?
