--- Speaking of crime what about wild pigs ( feral swine, escaped hogs ) ? I just read that there are well over 5.5 million of these critters running loose in North America, damaging crops and pastures etc. Some of these wild pigs are now moving into urban areas digging up lawns and messing up parks. They are very sneaky and mainly move around at night.

My brother hunts feral pigs. It sounds like a pretty rugged sport.

I recently read an article in an old issue of The Smithsonian about how much of a problem the pigs are becoming.

--- Thanks for the info Corrijean.

Many years ago when I was a lot younger we used to raise some pigs ( up to 150 of them ). Even tame pigs can be quite dangerous when they get angry and the wild ones are even worse of course ( keep the gun loaded I would say ).

There are things that are funny and there are things which are odd ( and things that are both ). So there is this fellow down in Florida who heard that Police-officers get a discount on Donuts. So he gets a badge of some sort and a pistol and then heads over to the nearest Donut shop. Once there he demands some donuts at a discount but is refused. This upsets the poor fellow and he starts to complain and also wave his badge and gun around to impress people. The real Police have charged him with impersonating a Peace- officer. Perhaps the donuts at the local jail are sold at a discount ?

It seems to me that there are fewer all-night donut shops than there used to be, but then again, I don't live in the whole country.

Thanks for that cute post Joseph-S. Possibly these gas-stations that also sell some food and coffee are taking away some of that business ( plus the 24 hr Macdonald's drive-thrus as well ).

The Krispy Kreme just south-ish of Dupont Circle is open pretty late, for all the drunks wanting something tasty.

Around here all we have is Dunkin which is terrible- they have bad donuts and bad coffee, but somehow they are incredibly successful. Go figure Undecided

--- Thanks for the post Ivandh. There is no shortage of fast-food outlets that's for sure, but finding healthy food is another question.

ivandh

I've certainly never heard someone say after a night of binge drinking that they could really go for some carrot sticks.

--- Good point Ivandh. Mind you as we get older we should think about healthy foods. Years ago I used to just luv banana splits, now it seems that yogurt is a big treat for me  lol.

Well things keep on changing, Canada Post has just announced that the mailman ( ie letter-carrier ) is marching off into history. House to house delivery will be stopped within 5 years ( perhaps they can get small drones to drop off the mail ? ).

You wish!   No, you'll be marching your ass off to the nearest post office to get your bills.

Are they losing as much money as the US Post Office?

ivandh

I understand the Somali mail service has not been overbudget (having completely shut down) since 1991.

Thanks for the new posts.

I'm only a 5 minute drive from the post office in this small town and we all have to go pick up our own mail here. I suppose that Canada Post is losing some money so they said that stamps are going up soon too.

And so I do.  I think they suck.

Yeah, I think about 'em. Then I make a big plate of pasta.

--- I'm reminded of a WC.Fields quote: " It's a funny old world and you've got to be lucky to get out of it alive " ( I have a book on old WC here somewhere and when I find it I need to double-check that quote  lol ).
