Trolls With Inability To Stop - A place for people to admit they have a problem!

Ok I think it's about time to admit that some of us have a problem

So I am setting up this thread as a kind of support group - where we can overcome this addiction to posting on the forums that distract us from playing chess - talking to friends - and even venturing outside - no matter whether the sunlight blinds us!

I can't be the only one to notice that too many of us spend our free time posting on here rather than doing something more constructive like thinking about the moves we should be making, learning a craft like morris dancing, working on that novel about chickens with superpowers that we all think we should have written by now but can never find the time, learning how to speak klingon so we can tell trekies exactly what we think of them in a language they understand, learning pi to over thousand digits ... I could go on all day.

So I invite you to join me in my new group - Trolls With Inability To Stop (T.W.I.T.S.) - and say - yes I can stop posting all the time.

Lets show the world we can stop whenever we want by posting our feelings in here. I believe the more we post - the more we'll do to help ourselves to overcome our posting addiction.

Is this really going to help me??   Tongue Out

But of course... admitting the problem is half the solution

Posting on here constantly talking about it is the other half

Prefer visual media )

Soorat92

Curse my soundless computer with its broken soundcard ...

I am sure visual media is good

But a problem like posting too much can surely only be solved by talking about it on here ...

netzach

But talking about it means more posts. Right?

Oh of course - we can't solve this without more posts

netzach

Which results in more trolling...

Soorat92

There will be more trolls - this is a place for them to talk about their experiences - admit their posting problem - and hopefully be able to post enough to support one another through this until we see light at the other end of the tunnel

chessgeek95

I have noticed you posting in a lot of threads Soorat

Soorat92

Exactly why it's important that I share my problem on this thread

Although it would appear I am alone in either admitting the problem - or perhaps I am the only person to post more than I should ...

Before we can discuss what you perceive to be a problem, we have to agree to a definition of the terms.  What is, "posting more than I should"?  How much posting should a person participate in and do we evaluate posting in terms of the number of words employed or length of time required or?  Is there a finite volumn of posting that each of us should subscribe to, least we exceed a limit and enter the realm of "too much posting" or does it vary individual to individual?

What negative values does one accumulate via "excessive posting"?  Does one accumulate a certain amount of acceptable posting time via a 'per rose smelled' rule?

These are ALL very important points - that I feel we should define

I believe the best way for us to come up with each point is to discuss each one at length

Have you ever read the book (or seen the film) "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"?

I don't mean this in a derogatory manner but you sound exactly like the character of Nurse Ratched, an evil manipulative matriarch of a mental institution who forces the patients to "confess" to their past misdeeds as she cruelly psychologically dissects her subjects and causes them to feel shame and guilt

Love the book - big fan of the film too

I fail to see your point ... what's wrong with what she does?

Big difference between her and myself is I think I am probably more at home with the patients ... I'm indian at least ... (well kashmiri)

In my opinion, excessive anything (in this case posting) becomes excessive once it begins to interfere with some aspect of ones life that would prove more beneficial to their overall well-being than said posting might.

This "other posting" activity can only be evaluated on a case by case basis.  If your vehicle was in a shop undergoing repair and the only way you could get to work the next day was if you had  your vehicle.  Then, posting instead of picking up your vehicle might prove of some detriment and therefore excessive?  Of course, this assumes that you need or should go to work!

If you spend the evening posting instead of attending a ceremony and claiming your Nobel Prize, might be considered excessive unless the committee would just mail you the money anyway and you were uncomfortable among large numbers of people.

So, we cannot agree on what is "excessive" because it is defined in terms of each individual by each individual.  After all, what is too much sex :-)

I've needed to pee for the last 3 hours ... and haven;t moved

Does that count?

Or am I just lazy?

montanagrizz

There could be a number of reasons for your behavior that has nothing to do with either an addiction to posting or laziness.

This could well be a masochistic conscience or subconscience behavior.

This could be the result of indecison (in your case post or pee) that has been contending for dominance during the past three hours.

Some artificial stimulant could or might be factored into this specific situation.

Of course, you have an easy solution to your situation.  "Depends".

Soorat92

I do? Please tell - I'm getting a terrible stomach ache

solution: close your account.
