Online Chess, Notes and Variations

A feature that would pretty mouch be very useful for me would be some kind of store for the analysis done on a move in online-chess. I use the analysis-board a lot to play through different variations of what the opponent might play. These analysis (something like the Game Editor) should be stored for future use with every move (unlike the notes-section that is not stored per move but for the whole game). It would be great if these analyises could be included in the pgn that can be sent after the game.

I see some important advantages in that:

  • Obviously these analysises can be used for future moves of the opponent. Of course it is questionable if such analysis should be trusted 100%, but it's a good start.
  • Not so obvious, but maybe even more important this would keep note of the thinking process. It would show where I went wrong (because the opponent had a different move then what I expected) and should thus be the basis of further post game analysis.
  • If sent with the pgn the moves can be analysed with a chess engine to show errors.
  • If the opponent agrees his variations and notes could be part of the pgn as well - again increasing the quality and learning effect.

Of course this could be done in a chessdatabase program like scid or chessbase, but there are some major drawbacks:

  • not available online, so people have to transfer the pgn between computers (that's the main reason I don't use that, because I input moves from at least four different machines at different places).
  • opponents analysis can not be part of the pgn
  • just one mouseclick away from checking the analysis with an engine ("opportunity makes the thief")

your preaching to the quire (quire looks like queer Laughing) that way I wouldn't have to quickly write down my analysis or make some kind of stupid tree of possible moves

I too would love to see the ability to enter games and analysis and save them in a personal folder. It would be a super online database feature IMO.

The Analysis Board and Editor feature is the number one thing that interested me in this site, but it sure would be nice not to have to copy my work elsewhere to save, and then paste it back here to continue.
