Good morning! My alarm clock works--it's new. Coffee, whole grain toast w/ strawberry preserves, chess board, "cigarettes", and we're only an hour away from the fun to start!. I didn't dream about chess, but about halfway through a tournament thread I usually start having chess in my dreams.
I think there are about twelve other threads about this tournament, which is very exciting given that there usually aren't a lot of threads going on about any tournament at Chess.com. Perhaps more people are feeling comfortable about posting in the forums, which is a good thing! Also, I think people are anticipating a very exciting tournament overall.
I'll just write my own observations about the games throughout this fortnight, and whoever wishes to toss in their own observations, as always I will look forward to reading you.
Hello! Today at 9:00am eastern time, the 2013 candidates for the title of World Chess Champion will begin a 14 round tournament to decide who will challenge Viswanathan Anand who has held the title of World Chess Champion since September of 2007. Among the eight best players in the world who were chosen as the Candidates, we will see former world champion and number two ranked player in the world Vladamir Kramnik, the man who took the title of world chess champion away from the legendary Garry Kasparov, a little over twelve years ago. And world number one Magnus Carlsen, the highest rated player in the history of chess.
*Carlsen plays black against Levon Aronian, who is ranked number three in the world.
*Kramnik plays black against Peter Svidler, who is ranked number fourteen in the world.
*The number four ranked player in the world, Teimour Radjabov has the black pieces against last year's world champion challenger, and number seventeen ranked player, Boris Gelfand
*Number ten ranked player in the world, Alexander Grischuk will have the black pieces against the eleventh ranked, Vassily Ivanchuk.
The games are being played in London, England:
