trysts

Hello! Today at 9:00am eastern time, the 2013 candidates for the title of World Chess Champion will begin a 14 round tournament to decide who will challenge Viswanathan Anand who has held the title of World Chess Champion since September of 2007. Among the eight best players in the world who were chosen as the Candidates, we will see former world champion and number two ranked player in the world Vladamir Kramnik, the man who took the title of world chess champion away from the legendary Garry Kasparov, a little over twelve years ago. And world number one Magnus Carlsen, the highest rated player in the history of chess.

*Carlsen plays black against Levon Aronian, who is ranked number three in the world.

*Kramnik plays black against Peter Svidler, who is ranked number fourteen in the world.

*The number four ranked player in the world, Teimour Radjabov has the black pieces against last year's world champion challenger, and number seventeen ranked player, Boris Gelfand

*Number ten ranked player in the world, Alexander Grischuk will have the black pieces against the eleventh ranked, Vassily Ivanchuk.

The games are being played in London, England:

Good morning! My alarm clock works--it's new. Coffee, whole grain toast w/ strawberry preserves, chess board, "cigarettes", and we're only an hour away from the fun to start!. I didn't dream about chess, but about halfway through a tournament thread I usually start having chess in my dreams.

I think there are about twelve other threads about this tournament, which is very exciting given that there usually aren't a lot of threads going on about any tournament at Chess.com. Perhaps more people are feeling comfortable about posting in the forums, which is a good thing! Also, I think people are anticipating a very exciting tournament overall.

I'll just write my own observations about the games throughout this fortnight, and whoever wishes to toss in their own observations, as always I will look forward to reading you.Smile

Thank you, Scott!

To commemmorate the country hosting this wonderful event, I've changed my avatar to Jane Austen. Brilliant writer!

Here's some interesting facts about England: They still use a horse and carriage to travel, though they do have trains. Scotland Yard is still looking for Jack the Ripper. And they still have a Queen.Smile

Scottrf

And we all wear monocles.

naturalproduct

Like Scott, I'm going to wear a monocle but with a top hat today. Cheeky monkies..

naturalproduct

Tryst. Thanks for the nice post.

I followed my way to the official FIDE website for the even and now have it live streaming. It looked like one of the players was giving himself a manicure at the table...lol. There is no audio yet.

Will there be any commentary on the Official FIDE site? Or do we need to visit a different site for that? I'm a patzer and need everything explained to me or else I'll be lost the whole time...Frown

trysts

A crowd is starting to gather outside of the playing hall...

Telegraphs will be used to transmit the moves to various gentleman's clubs around London...

Women will gather together awaiting the men to bring them news of the matches...

Of course, it is an excellent time for secret trysts...

Smile

trysts

@Naturalproduct: I don't know if there will be live commentary at the official site. I certainly hope so.

trysts

I just found this at the official site:

"Live commentary with Malcolm Pein and Lawrence Trent"

Scottrf

Trent was commentator at the London Chess Classic and Pein was the organiser.

Lawrence Trent also does the podcast, "The Full English Breakfast". Here is a link for those who don't know about it:

You have received your answers in your thread, poko, but I believe the matches begin now and not 10amSmile

rooperi

That turnament site seems to have broken down now:

I get this now: Database Error: Unable to connect to the database:Could not connect to MySQL

mapearson1990

@rooperi...Same here. Had it up a few hours ago and the site was fine but getting the same issue.

Edit: Got it back again. Man, I can't wait for this to start.

trysts

I'm still getting a live feed. Carlsen went to the board and picked up one of his rooks, looking at the bottom of it. Perhaps looking for a transmitter?

trysts

Is this a delay? Or is it not 14:16gmt in London now?

Scottrf

It's 13:18.
